It seems to be different here in Ireland though.

one of my mates married an english bird and a fair few of us went over for the wedding.

Apparently its a bit of a tradition over there that close friends and family get together the day after as the bride is opening the gifts. She was from a fairly wealthy background and a few of us went along.

Some of her Aunts and Uncles and friends gave them sh*t like pots for plants etc that were only £20 in Tesco and other crappy stuff. All the Irish without exception gave at least £100 each.
It was morto stuff (for them) as she went through the presents.
