Two more would be needed, Roger.

The Scots could add Pittodrie and we would need another in Galway or north of that, for geographical balance.

But you're right, a bid between ourselves and Scotland could be a goer. No need for Wales.

Was thinking the same myself.

Did a reckie whilst over in the west last weekend and apart from the floodlights it and the surrounding area are as dilapidated as when I was last there over 10 years ago. Apparently, it's a 42k all seater these days. Perhaps so with someone sat on your shoulders!

Not enough money swilling around in the coffers for Ireland to get this on their own I'm afraid. Be great if a Celtic bid was successful, but I have to say I love travelling for the big tournaments to foreign pastures so wouldn't be that gutted if it wasn't.

what i do know was years ago it used to hold 35k for connaught finals many moons ago but they wouldnt allow those number again id imagine.it would be great for thecountry if we got it but i prefer going abroad myself

The Estadio Mchaleo has a current capacity of 41,000.One very nice stand and 3 sides with concrete benches.Pearse Stadium is a lovely ground but again has one nice stand and 3 side terraces (cap 36,000) and is in a terrible location for wind and traffic. The Connacht final in 09 was about the only time Ive been there when the wind didnt ruin the game.

The thing is the only stadium in Ireland that would meet criteria for a major soccer championship is Lansdowne.Even Croker wouldn't qualify as i think (open to correction here) that temporary seats on the hill wouldn't be accepted for a proper championship. All pie in the sky stuff lads.

Agreed. However, you wouldn't even need to include the temporary seating in croker. you could just go without the hill at all. other than that i agree that this is all pie in the sky.

All they have to do is close off the Hill , simples

I think it would be utter nonsense even contemplating a bid... Though
I did enjoy someone speculating above about a Germany Holland q/f in
McHale park... It'd be mad... Too mad though.

I always say this when bidding comes up but I don't understand
why UEFA don't just rotate it amongst the big European countries
like Germany, Spain, France, England, Italy and possibly belgium/netherlands..
Proper Stadiums and infrastructure, easy to get to and huge football fanbase.
I think after the fiasco that is Ukraine they'll have learnt
Their lesson and it'll be the big major countries for a while.
Might sound boring but they can handle them.
They'd still only get it once every 20 years so fresh excitement
for those countries every generation.

if ireland got a tight bid together with scotland then it could be a runner.
Croker
Aviva
Thomond
then redevelop one from semple , thurles , etc.etc.

Hampden
Celtic park
Ibrox
Murrayfield

Problem with that is 3 of Scotlands stadia are in Glasgow. The other two (i know you only mentioned one) are in Edinburgh. Then 2 of ours are in Dublin. So basically 7 of the stadia are split between 3 cities. Can see that putting off voters.
i thought I seen somewhere before that only one city in a bid can have more than one stadium. So for a joint bid, maybe the two bidding countries could have one city that has 2 stadia.
So that would mean Ibrox would probably not be included in a bid by Scotland.

We'd need to come up with 4 or 5 (Croker, Landsdowne, Thormand + 2 more GAA stadia).
Scotland then come up with 4 or 5 (Hampden, Parkhead, Murray field then Aberdeen, Hearts or Hibs to be upgraded).

If we got the support of the GAA we would probably be best place in terms of stadia out of ourselfves, Scotland and Wales

Not a bad call really. The only countries that are ready made to hold it on their own are Italy, France, Spain, England and Germany. Russia after they have completed their 2018 can be added to that and the likes of Holland and Portugal could probably get there with a small amount of work.
Turkey in about 15 years time might also be in a better position.

So really, there are plenty of countries they could rotate it to. with it harder to stage the world cup it is probably more likely that you will always have 2 or 3 of the big countries going for it.

Bit unsound that, switzerland/austria seemed to do a good job before, sweden could go in with one of their neighbours, russia could host one, Poland probably could have done it by themselves if needed the balkans or baltics may be in a position to do so in 20/30 years cant really limit it to five countries

Casement Park in Antrim is getting totally revamped and will take over from Clones as Ulsters main GAA stadium in the next few years i think , so even though the IFA would have nothing got to do with our bid if we made one could Casement Park be used as an option?

I'm surprised two of the Scandinavian countries haven't put in a bid before...would they have the stadiums??

Sweden held it on their own in 92. Finland would have small stadiums, probably Norway too.

Lansdowne is only a 4* stadium (Europe Lge).

When they were brought to a GAA stadium where we might be allowed play, the old landsdowne and a field were Stadium Ireland could be built. We totally f**ked up Scotlands bid ha
