True. Will be interesting to see if any manager ever wins the Copa Libertadores and the European Champions League. Only one European manager(Jozic in 91) has won the Libertadores, no South American manager has won the European Cup since Carniglia and Herrera in the 50's and 60's. And neither of those lads ever managed in SA. Scolari has won the Libertdores so he is probably the manager with the best chance of doing it. Doubt he'll bother managing anyone in Europe after Brazil though. Maybe Sabella will move to Europe after the Argentine job, he's still young enough. |

Hate Guangzhou but still delighted for them, great for Chinese football, they'll be the team to beat in Asia in the short term at least, another Chinese club getting big bucks funding would be biggest challenger I'd say

Hmm. Let's see, clubs with money behind them achieve success on the continent. But the national team, unable to buy in top foreign talent, struggle in the international stage.
Anyone else see parallels in China with England here? |

Confirmed by Fluminense, Conca has returned to Rio. Interesting now to see what division he'll be playing in, Serie A or Serie B? |

he tried to leave in jan and actually flew to the middle east, it didnt work out and bizarrely came back to shanghai to play again, best player in the squad but, like Anelka, doesnt put his shift in and shocking lack professionialism from him, hopefully they invest in an equally decent player for that non-asian player slot How did Evergrande play earlier? |

missed ths before, some decent chinese youths playing in the league, some at Guangzhou an perhaps biasedly shanghai keeper Wang Dalei could play in decent leagues in Europe and be okay, they should start challening again in 5/6 years but wont be at the level of Korea or Japan |

Shenhua in turmoil, owner has sold best Chinese players before he sells the club, basically asset stripping the club as one last f**k you, sickening seeing it happen, shanghai deserves better
edit; even worse he's sold them to title contending clubs, effectuvely meanign shenhua can't get a champions league place next season Edited by nvidic - 16 Jan 2014 at 9:33pm |

Was reading yesterday that Alesandro Diamanti joined Guangzhou, team managed by Lippi in China. Would effect is world cup chances? Must have been offered silly money to go there.
He is still in their squad for their freindly with Spain on wed though. Edited by PaulMcGrath5 - 04 Mar 2014 at 8:55am |

Beijing Guoan, supported by our very own Gem, won the China derby 2-0 against Shenhua today, was always gonna happen, will be a long and difficult season for shenhua
Asian CL well under way too, Asamoan Gyan (al ain - UAE) and Vagner Love (shandong luneng - China)both on four goals and lead GS's list along with some other randomer Only surprise is that Bunyodkor have yet to secure a win, three of the four Chinese team top their groups |

Saudi Arabia's Al Hilal (2 time winners, twice runners up) travel to Western Sydney Wanderers (Est 2012, first appearance in comp) for first leg of AFC champions league final before return leg a week later, Saudi's are slight favourites, no Australian team has ever won it, hvaing only ever been represented at this stage by Adelaide in 2008
