If the new backroom staff Ljungberg and Edu work out Arsenal could have a very solid structure in place, so getting Tierney and a central defender in could be a very solid foundation and team.

There was a player Nkiati I think that came on in the Europa League Final that did more in 10 minutes then most of the team in the first 80 mins. I think he has played some pre season games. Any info on him?

Looks to me like Emery is gambling big time.

For not just is he spreading his transfer kitty over as many new players as possible (3-4-5 year installment plans etc), but he's still concentrating on midfield and attack, even despite the team's obvious defensive frailties.

My guess is that he's not trying to build a team which will eventually compete with the top two or three teams, since that would mean fixing all areas and take far too long.

Instead, he's going for 4th spot, presumably by outscoring the other contenders (Man U, Wolves, Leicester etc). If it comes off, then CL football should release extra cash for the following season.

Of course if it doesn't, then money could be even tighter next summer, since he's already committed so much of the club's future budgets with this seaspn's signings.

But that would be likely to be some other manager's problem, since another season of Arsenal finishing without a trophy and outside the top four could mean the sack (if he doesn't walk first).

Eddie Nketiah, was with Chelsea as a youngster but was let go. Was surprised to hear he was let go by them as he has a lot of talent, might have been a late bloomer. Scored 2 on his 2nd appearance for Arsenal in a league cup game against Norwich, came on as an 85th minute sub and scored his 1st after 15 seconds. Wes had a very good game too IIRC.

Seems to have been a big part of pre-season so would like to see him get more chances, but hard to break up the Aubameyang - Lacazette partnership.

I don't think he'll be there in 2/3 years tbh. He said last season that he never stays in a job long-term as the intensity of his style is too much for both him and his players.

The Telegraph have just reported that David Luiz has gone on strike to force through a move to Arsenal. Absolutely bizarre if true.

"Bizarre" in one sense, until you realise it's that total asswipe Luiz, where it's more "par for the course" to be at something like that.

Anyone know how Chelsea are off for CB's?

Unless the transfer ban is overturned, they can't even buy in January to replace him, so maybe Luiz will be screwing two teams at once. Thumbs Up

They got Kurt Zouma back from Everton who is arguably a much better defender. They'll be grand if Luiz succeeds in leaving.

Shame, but thanks anyhow.

The DT suggests Fat Frank will go with Zouma and Christiansen at CB on Saturday, which shouldn't be too bad. I wonder who they have as cover?

Meanwhile, I see the DT report incls this nugget:

David Luiz did not train with the Chelsea first team on Wednesday after sensationally trying to force a move to Arsenal.

Despite only signing a new two-year contract with the Blues in May, which broke the club’s policy of only handing players aged 30 or over one year deals, Luiz has made it clear he wants to go following a series of fall-outs over the past week.

And the situation came to head just over 24 hours before the transfer window shuts, as Luiz trained away from the rest of head coach Frank Lampard’s senior players.

Arsenal, whose coach Unai Emery worked with Luiz at Paris Saint-Germain, are interested in signing 32-year-old Luiz before the transfer window closes at 5pm on Thursday.

Monreal moves to Sociedad. A decent performer during his time at the club. Not the best player by any stretch but was always committed. A bit light in defence now, need Tierney to get fit asap.

Had to go. This season has been a shambles. Only himself to blame for his sacking.

Nuno Espirito would be a good choice. But he seems a very principaled man, maybe he has the lord on his side. So I couldn't see him movingmid season. Hallejuah
