Sensational. I went to school in France for a bit in the nineties, she made Ireland popular then. Everybody knew her, where she was from, in a way many other Irish artists never achieved. Every day somebody would shout 'Cranberries' at me in the school, and, for no apparent reason, I was proud of them. Some people are still confused about Sir Bono and Sir Bob, even themselves! I really don't think Dolores was ever confused about where she was from. To people like me, that meant more than it should.

Just to put it into perspective the amount of Spanish, German and North Americans that have flown in especially for funeral is unreal.

100% agree, PM. It affected me more than any of the celebrity deaths of the last two years or so, and there have been a lot.

Really pm. Prince passing had a much more profound impact on me personally. Personal thing though. Edited by Baldrick - 23 Jan 2018 at 1:19pm |

Have always hated Prince's music. Apparently he was a very talented lad but found his music bland. |

Horses for courses but Prince's music is anything but bland. Incredibly eclectic mix of all sorts of music genres and was always pushing the boundaries.

I would agree with the comments about her being our most famous female singer ever. As PM mentioned, my favourite thing about her was that her Limerick accent never changed. Usually Irish people becoming famous and travelling the world get diluted accent, some bit at least. The most iconic voice in the last 20 odd years of music maybe? So distinctive and beautiful. Great to see how moved people are in the Limerick area about her loss. Hopefully that's a tiny comfort to the family in years to come.

And all of them pretty bland to me! I get his influence and importance, but his music I found quite boring.

Enya has twice the record sales of Delores so it's debatable as to being our most famous
