Sad news. You won't find politicians like him too often, and very few today are even comparable. He was truly radical at a time when Ireland had an extremely binary political system, and living under the status quo was all too acceptable. The PDs in Government between 1989-1992 were an example of how important it can be to have a vigilant coalition partner on board. Much of what we know now about Irish politics at the time was first aired by O'Malley who saw it as repugnant.
