Ric Ocasek, lead singer of The Cars.  Died at the age of 75.

Actually quite shocked how old he was.  That means he was 40 went You Might Think and Drive were in the charts?

Didn’t realise he was that old myself. Great band too.

Very talented guy. Bit of a late developer. Didn't really have major success until he was in early middle age. Leading to the surprise at how old he was.Drive was one of the most iconic songs of the eighties especially with it being so associated with live aid.

The grateful dead are one of those bands you hear about a lot, but never hear their music. I don't know any of their songs.

Am I missing out or are they one of those overrated American bands?

I never got them at all. I feel you had to be a pot smoking teenager in late sixties America to get them. I think they were very much of a time and a place. Supposedly had great live shows at their peak though.

Jacques Chirac. Hardly a political icon of mine but he deserves huge credit for how he stood up the the USA and as much if not more for his acceptance of French involvement in the Holocaust.

Ginger Baker, he was 80. Cream never did much for me but he was unquestionably a great drummer.

Still gigging up to last year.I suppose that's the way to go out, not fade further and further away to nothing.

Cream were more hype than achievement, I suppose, like most superbands. The Travelling Wilburys probably being the best of them.
