Sounds like you're having dinner in my house HB. Same starter with some additional bits wrapped in parma ham.
It's the first year the aul one isn't cooking a turkey for the dinner.

Just had a starter of scallops and black pudding washed down with 2 Guinness.
Steak diane for the mains now at about 6 - first time not having the traditional turkey\ham. Build up that appetite with a couple of gins

Got a kfc last night. Was a tub of gravy left over. Got me thinking, freeze it and have it with my Christmas dinner? Or woul that be considered sacrilege?

My ma makes these things she calls bacon rolls.
Big lump of home made sausage stuffing wrapped in bacon and cooked in the oven. f**kin fantastic. I've not been home to my ma's for a good few years at xmas. They've come to ours or we go to the mrs' grandads'. He's 90 and still does the dinner.

Its important what you do with your mash. I think too often people boil the potatoes, and then add butter and that's it. Key thing is, during the roasting of the turkey, you should roast garlic cloves in tine foil alongside it (45 mins is fine), and after steaming the peeled potatoes add cream and butter, and squeeze the roasted garlic into the pot, before mashing.
