Thought he was doing well myself. Very composed player, probably lacks the aggression that you would expect from a holding midfielder. |

I actually have been impressed by his defensive positional play. He is always conscious of being no more than 5-6 yds in front of his back 4. If you want to see really bad defensive fornations look at blackburns display last night. There was a gap of 25 yds between thr midfield and back 4. Bolton exploited this space last night.
Anyway McCarthy should improve. As Ive said needs a bit more physicality and aggression about him. |

Showed for it more in the 2nd half . He's a good player no doubt and looks more mature than his 21 years

A tad over the top in my opinion. He did ok tonight, kept it simple enough and was disciplined. He has plenty of promise but has an awful long way to go and should definitely make the Euro panel.

He was playing in the holding role tonight and I thought he did well. Some fantastic tracking back and is a lot more aggressive than say, Gibson. His intelligent charge and interception almost resulted in a goal for Sammon.

it will be interesting to see if trap allows him to play in central midfield like andrews or whelan during the upcoming friendlies rather than behind the striker. hope he gets the chance

Wasn't as affective as he was against Chelsea but I think he is looking a lot better than he was last season. Could be a really important player for us

Everton my bollocks.
I would like to see him develop under Wenger or someone like that.
Even MON at Villa would get the best out of him.
