Updated player ratings after the completion of the match; Hendrick's rating drops to 6/100. Jeff Hendrick 6 Should have won it in normal time with close range effort. A much better effort but not likely to trouble Hayden or Willock as a starter. |

Thought he answered a few naysayers tonight. Was crucial to limiting Portugal's chances and utilised the ball very well when he had it. You wouldn't know he's lacking game time either; great engine on him.

His best performance in a long time for Ireland. Wasn't the argument always that you couldn't play both Hendrick and Hourihane in the same team?

Played well. As you said good energy for someone who isn't playing regularly but he was still sloppy in possession and his passing and got caught out more than a couple times. At least he was actively looking for the ball though today. Truth being told he still not the answer to our problems though and at his age theres no changing his game.

He's definitely performed better in terms of consistently looking for the ball under Kenny. He can be a decent player at times, which is why he is so frustrating.

One of his best performances for Ireland in a long time, let's be fair to him. His limitations were on show which meant he got caught once or twice and didn't get his head up sometimes, but overall he put in a great shift and between himself and Cullen they were excellent in midfield defensively. You can't ask for much more than that away to Portugal.

It's probably been his best game since Wales 2017, or Euro 2016. But I think Azerbaijan will be a bigger test for him when we'll have most of the possession and he'll be asked to pass it around and try open them up to create chances instead of trying to limit the chances created by the opposition. I'd probably drop McGrath deeper to play next to Cullen in the next game, and give Hendrick a bit of a rest for Serbia. Maybe start Molumby against Azerbaijan and keep McGrath more advanced. |

Thought he was bar far our best player in the first half. Not quite the same showing in the second but thought he was very good overall. Without doubt our best midfielder anyway, the only player in the middle of the park for us with even a slight bit of delicacy

I've been very critical of Jeff in recent years but he had a good game tonight, agree he was our best midfielder, faded a bit second half. Put in two good performances this window in fairness to us - hopefully he can keep it up.

If Jeff could hammer out these 6/7 out of 10 performances every time we'd be in a much better place. Its such a shame hes so inconsistent because he has bags of ability and showed it tonight.

Agreed with this. He just has that little bit more when his head is in it. Maybe getting dropped gave him a kick up the arse. His best window in a long time.

Thought he had a good game in fairness but was disappointed with the free kick he took in the 1st half......
