Yeah he gets the crowd buzzing alright but sometimes that's about it.. On a side note as I haven't seen highlights the Long penalty shout we had was there anything in that or was it clearly a dive. Actually thought the ref had a woeful game

Playing McClean in his right position would be a start. The man is an out and out winger yet he has played off the front and as a wing back in our last few games. He ended Saturday in centre midfield. Play him left wing where he does his damage, he has shown in big games played in his correct position he can make a difference and be positive for the team. I think he gets frustrated too often and ends up diving in.

Think he was booked for coming in late rather than diving.

Mc Clean has heart and loves his country. Does that mean he should start every game and never be taken off? I don't think so. He was crap the last 2 games. I think he managed to get 1 cross in to the box. Never beats the first man and is always late in to tackles. I said this on Saturday, he's not fit enough so shouldn't start. The game last night was crying out for him in last 30 to lift us. That's really about it. Football can be a cruel game. Winner in Cardiff doesn't paint over the obvious. He shouldn't be in our best 11.

again its a failure of the coaching staff not to drill it into his thick skull - came into this game on a yellow card, they must see him as one of our more important players to keep playing him, yet pretty much first 10 minutes he was flying in, took the legs away from the Welsh player (was lucky not to be booked there and then)
warning given, still doesn't learn from it, cleans another guy out. Now misses the next match a total liability to the team, offers nothing these days unless he is given the opportunity to have a first time crack at goal that he doesn't have to take a couple of seconds to think about. Would not be in my first 11

Running a lot, loving playing for your country, and being very fit can only take you so far.
McClean's limitations are there for all to see at the minute. He's not the only one though. We lacked quality in attack bar Callum Robinson, and we took him off with half an hour to go.

In fairness to him he has a decent sense of humour. Asked in programme for Denmark game who the most technical player in the team is he said Shane Duffy

The only position McClean can function in is left winger. Given that Robbie Brady is only effective as a left sided midfielder also then this should leave no place for McClean in the starting line up in the future, there's too much shoehorning of players in to the wrong positions just because their face fits.
Then we can just focus on making this thread about poppies how much he hates the Queen and maybe some toothpaste puns.

love the passion but at the moment he should revert to his previous role as an impact sub at which he was very effective. cant play wingback or centre mid, not his fault he is deployed there but clearly not suited to it. oneill has no played him at striker, winger, wingback, left back, and CM, pretty wild

The last time McClean hasn't started a competitive game was the 3-0 defeat v Belgium in Euro 2016.
(A run of 15 games - was suspended for 2-0 WCQ v Moldova in October 2017 and broken wrist for 1-4 NL v Wales last month.)

I think the only way he is effective is if he's left on his own to take on the defender in the last third of the pitch. He struggles in tight spaces where there are 2 v 2 situations, where he can't use his pace to get at the defender. If we persist with the 3-5-2 with a similar line up to the Wales game, Robinson would be better off positioning himself on the right side of the pitch and combining with Doherty, which may help get the best out of Doherty's attacking abilities, leaving McClean with more open spaces to work in if the ball gets switched over to him.

It isn't a news story, but a season tucked in between Halloween and Xmas.
I expect he'll be the Derry candidate in the next Preselection.

Think the statement from Stoke is Ok, certainly better than previous clubs who hung him out to dry.

That's not fair comment, Wigan were very supportive for a start. It's never really been tfe cubs that have been an issue.
