Maybe Stokes is better than Cox or maybe Cox is better than Stokes but the realitiy is Cox showed up and earned his place against weak opposition and Stokes stayed at home.
Trap will remember that. It would need Stokes to have a fantastic season for Celtic and scoring goals in the Europa League for Trap to consider Stokes again.

Cox is Cox and Stokes is Stokes we all have different opinions , now imo i think its great (even though Stokes attitude stinks) that we can afford to say a Celtic striker who scores goals can be our 5th choice striker , success comes with squad and playing pool depth!!

Stokes can only do the business on the field for Celtic and if he does well maybe we'll see him playing for Ireland again who knows?!!

His goalscoring record might as well read 1 in 4 because a goal against Northern Ireland shouldn't even count.

ConfusedConfused Well with that stupid logic he should have 1 in 3 or can you count? And had a legit goal ruled out in Skopje. And only played a half hour against Italy. ConfusedConfused

Anyway it makes no difference who is better than who. Stokes wont be in the squad for the forseeable future, and Doyle, Cox, Keogh and Long are ahead of him in the pecking order.

His record is of no significance at this stage. Trap picks him consistently in squads, Stokes he does not. Not hard to figure who he favours, rightly or wrongly.

Dont know, but it appears most footballers these couldnt be arsed picking up the phone these days.
McCarthy, Gibson, Walters and Wilson all let the club inform the FAI. I really dont know why a players cant pick up hte phone and explain in person the reason why them cant make the squad.

The reason is simple enough, they are 'special needs' and someone has to do it for them

I really do detest the modern player - why anyone would approach them for photographs or worse autographs is beyond me.

Simon Cox tallied 1 League goal in 19 games for West Brom, that included 8 starts.

Anthony Stokes tallied 14 League goals in 29 games for Celtic.

Simon Cox has had 1 good season at Championship level.

Anthony Stokes has learned from the best at Arsenal and has scored goals for fun, when played in his natural position.

Cox got a start on a silver platter in the Nations Cup. Stokes has never even got a fleeting chance to show what he can do.

Stokes' reputation precedes him.

stokes acts like a prick. im a celtic fan and i can see it. he has a reputation and he makes a hash outa a good chance that he has at celtic.

is he better than cox, yes he is but stokes's behaviour leaves him having no chance to show what he can do for Ireland.

if he improves his attitude then he might have a chance.
put em under pressure!

if stokes just keeps his head down, lets the goals do the talking, doesn't say anything negative, keeps his behaviour intact, he will get in the ireland team. if he keeps coming out in newspapers saying sh*te, giving lennon a hard time on the training ground, not giving 100% then he will be left in the international wildnerness.

simon cox took his chance when stokes pulled out and that is why he's there. stokes did himself absolutely no favours.

Cox came in and grabbed his opportunity with both hands. I couldn't give a bollix really what his club form is like. He's busted a gut and done well in a green jersey and thats all that matters. Likewise Sean St Ledger who is mediocre at best at club level but has put in some fantastic performances for his country.

In short - we love Cox! Stokes - wasted your chance - however, a season ticket can be yours for just €189 Thumbs Up
