Sound - thanks. I actually just gave them a quick ring there - you're able to get alcohol at the bars if you have a valid boarding pass.

I've heard of lads from swords buying a one way ticket on cheapest flight out of dublin then going on the piss all day in the airport.
The taxi home is cheaper then one from town

Now that pubs in Ireland are open on Good Friday for the first time since 1927 are many on here going to take advantage of it?

Not me anyway, but I only go to the pub about once every two months on average.

I've never really seen the problem with it. An extra day off for pub staff and a chance for publicans to get repairs etc done. Pubs were only closed for 2 days a year FFS.

Sure pubs can choose to close whenever they want. A legally enforced closing on a Friday is a poor idea though.

You have to laugh at Irish people on Holy Thursday or whatever it's called.  Stocking up on booze like there is a hurricane on the way.  If you cant go one day without beer you have issues.

I know nobody can force a pub to open. I can't see any pubs that would normally be open on a Friday closing for Good Friday now though.

Exactly so they can get their refurb done on a Monday and Tuesday in Jan and not all pubs at the one time.

It's better for the customer and for the publican.

There are far bigger issues around how alcohol is sold and enjoyed than whether people can buy it on one day or not, especially as the ban on the day in question strengthens the belief that we are a nation of bucktoothed simpletons who live their lives according to the rules of a medieval and immoral cult.

So your argument is that it's bad for the pubs because they can't get repairs done on Good Friday, even though it will be completely their own choice not to have the repairs and to open on Good Friday instead Confused It's disgrace so it is!

Not really an argument. I don't give a crap either way. I just know a publican who thought it was a great day to get a load of stuff done in his pub without having to close on a trading day. I really don't care if pubs are open or closed on Good Friday.

To be fair Franko you said "Pubs were only closed 2 days a year FFS." That sounds to me like you are giving off about them being open on Good Friday.

What that publican is saying doesn't really make any sense either. For all these years he made no money at all on Good Friday and chose to get work done on the premises. He can still choose to do this and he won't be any worse off! The only difference is he now has the choice to open his premises and earn some money if he so chooses.

LOL Yeah. I probably didn't clarify what I meant in my original post. Sometimes I have things in my head that I don't actually write in my posts.
