Lads, there are so many clubs in england where they chant their songs along to irish tunes.

The 'Wild Rover' chorus is used at most Premiership clubs. "Noooo naaayy never clap clap clap clap." except it is reworded to suit the club, example being "asssstoonnn villa clap clap clap clap, aston villa fc".. it's used at loads of clubs.

Another tune is 'Lord of the Dance'. The chorus is used by the chelsea fans. I don't know the words they use.

Fields of Athenry tune is sung at Liverpool with different words also.

Could we come up with some words to the 'Wild Rover' type chant and the 'Lord of the Dance'.

Afterall, they seem like easy chants to do.

Wild Rover is Scottish

Lord of the Dance is Anglo/American

So, neither are 'ours'.

Everton version is "run, run, whoever you may be, we are the famous EFC, and we'll f*ck you up, whoever you may be, coz we are the famous EFC".

To be honest I find it amazing that the predominant irish song is russian.  And other recent favourites were spanish and american.

Maybe the russians, spanish and americans should start their own threads???? Big%20smile

Come On You Boys in Green is Russian lads. Adapted from the tune 'Those were the days my friend' which in turn uses the tune of an old Russian folk song.

Agree that we should be using the Wild Rover one though. Easy as anything. They even use it here at Ajax. Tune is always like this:

Singing Seaaaaamus Coleman, clapclapclapclap
Seamus Coleman is great,
He's the priiiiiiide of Ireland,
Seamus Coleman is great

But then obviously not about him when they sing it here. And any name can be fitted in, just key to get the syllables right a bit.

Or we could sing 'future of Ireland' when singing this about Coleman or McCarthy.

would agree wholeheartliy with the sentiments we should be adopting either Irish songs or songs associated with Ireland. There are enough songs out there.

He'll give you a move with perfect pass
Give him a ball & a yard of space
He'll give you a move with godly grace
