Dates above for Qatar WC 2022 qualifying.

Have to say I’m a fan of the condensed qualifying period.
The old days of 2 matches in Sept and October, then waiting months for 1 game day in March, another few months for 1 game on June, then another few months for 2 games in Sept and October.

10 games in same year between March and November is the way to go.
This

The old way was too drawn out and too many friendlies in a half empty stadium.

The only downside to this condensed format is that it can be harder on the finances when you have the Nations League added on, especially if you're one of those hardcore fans who go to every game. Ouch

And that's before you factor in possible play-offs and the odd tournament that we actually qualify for...

Talking of the play-offs, that's gonna be some fun booking travel and trying to factor in the final.

In Europe that makes us 22nd.
So probably 3rd seeds again for WC qualifying.
That actually crossed my mind when I landed back at Dublin Airport earlier tonight - just as well the draw won't be happening in a week or two or those 2 games in Tbilisi and Geneva could have cost us 2nd seed status.

Now, you have confirmed those games have indeed dropped us into Pot 3. And tbh, it's as much as we deserve after those 2 rancid performances. Dead

Presume the actual draw won't be until after next year's Nations League group phase has finished btw (mainly so that FIFA can know which teams to put in to the 5-team groups to enable them to play in the NL 'Final 4')?

Think the meeting may be more to work out how the NL play-offs will be set up to provide the last few UEFA places, as well as the format of the regular WC qualifiers ie how many groups of how many teams and how many teams will qualify directly.

Wonder if there'll be an announcement today?

Think there was some loophole that any ban only applied to worldwide organisations and not continental ones - can't remember the exact wording.

Was thinking that myself, that the ban would surely also apply to European Ch'ships & Nations League (really should do imo) - but it seems it applies to competitions that are open to the whole world and are under the jurisdiction of global governing bodies ie FIFA, International Olympic Committee, rather than ones that are just open to European teams under the jurisdiction of a continental body (UEFA) rather than a global one.

It definitely won't include the Euros.

Scotland's long tournament drought continues, at least until march.

Good news for Ireland. One less Euro team better then us competing. How many extra spots does Europe get for this WC or is that the one after?

The one after. It jumps up to 16 IIRC which presumably means if they use the same method as the one proposed for Qatar it'll be the 10 Group winners. With the playoffs consisting of the runners up plus the two best NL teams not already qualified or that didn't finish as a runner up. Except this time around only one round of playoffs so presumably back to 2 legged matches.

I'd say they'll appeal it and it will be reduced

That's the first thing I was thinking when I heard about it, that they'd surely appeal it.
