Poor performance last night against an average Middlesbroug team.

We only really created one good choice.

Shows how much Ross Stewart is missed we should have signed another forward in the window.

Definitely, squad looks too light for this league. No like for like back-up to come in for Stewart and most of the team last night consisted of players who came up via the play-offs. Alex Neil wanted to bring in experienced players and Mowbray could not hide his exasperation. Poor game marred by frequent fouls, Middlesbrough were dour and uninspiring but the better team. Could be a long hard season despite a decent start to it.

By a country mile.

No way would we have gone up without his goals and overall play.

Major error not getting cover in the Summer window and I don't want Andy feckin Carroll anywhere near the club.

Very sad to hear this.

Former Sunderland and Ipswich forward Marcus Stewart has been diagnosed with motor neurone disease.

The diagnosis for the 49-year-old, who is currently head of player development at National League club Yeovil, came after 12 months of testing, a joint statement from Yeovil and the Professional Footballers' Association confirmed it.

Ridiculous from Sunderland Speakman is a w**ker.

Tony Mowbray says Sunderland weren't interested in signing a striker in the Summer transfer window.

Looks like a big mistake. Simms was ineffective against Middlesbrough with Stewart out. On the plus side, Cirkin’s injury is not as serious as it seemed and he should be back in a week or two now.

Going on what Mowbray has been saying about changing the system because of the absence of Ross Stewart sounds like Patrick Roberts could be starting tonight.

His unfortunate legal troubles may have necessitated such a move.

Sunderland were magnificent last night they could have won by five or six.

Patrick Roberts man of the match closely followed by Dan Neil though they all played very well.
