Incorrect. The answer to the question was already answered on Saturday
All of them will leave. The ones who remain are there because they're grossly overpaid. There is no such thing as a relegation clause intact for players who dropped down from the Premier League last season, their contracts state it can't happen consecutively so the likes of Cattermole and Kone are still on £20-30k a week. Jack Rodwell will be on £40k a week as his contract was different from the rest, I honestly wouldn't trust Martin O'Neill with a £5 note ever again after the way he handled these talks but in a nutshell he's getting a paycut too because of failure to reach the Premier League after the first attempt. Sunderland were meant to release their financial figures today but have chosen not to for a very good obvious reason, once the creditors see the figures they'll eat the club like lambs to the slaughter. IE. Ring the administrators asap. Short will likely wait until the next parachute payment comes in and feed the creditors rather than invest anything into the club and look into trying to scrap pennies like a busker before releasing any financial statements Another problem is that Sunderland have absolutely no saleable assets, they're due £7.5 million from Beskitas keeping Lens and approx £5 million for Milan keeping Borini that's about it. Might get a 7 figure fee for McNair but that's about it really, everyone else is on too luxurious contracts. Too long didn't read version - Squad will just be full of academy players, loanees and players sitting on their luxurious contracts with the occasional free agent there and then while the rest gets flogged off. That's the story of the summer ahead. *Mind you this post could turn out to be entirely untrue if there's a legitimate takeover in the summer but as the current situation stands, it will be true.

Geordies rubbing it in already off course Accrington Stanley were promoted to League One this week with Sunderland
likely to join them from the Championship.
Newcastle United fans are
enjoying Sunderland’s slide down the football league and have instructed their
rivals to ‘enjoy Accrington Stanley’ after the Lancashire team were promoted to
League One. Accrington
secured promotion after 2-0 win over Yeovil on Tuesday night and, despite
Sunderland’s place in the third tier of English football still yet to be
confirmed, the likelihood is that the two clubs will meet in League One next
season. Newcastle fans have wasted no time in making
sure that Sunderland supporters realise where they will most likely be playing
their football next term - telling them to ‘enjoy Accrington Stanley’ on social
media. Accrington’s Wham Stadium only
holds 5,000, of which only 2,000 is seated, and will make for a stark
comparison to the Premier League stadia that the Black Cats became so used to. Posting
on social media, Tom Hunter wrote on Twitter: “The thought of Sunderland away
to Accrington Stanley next season just makes me giggle.” Meanwhile
Sammy C joked that Accrington won’t know who Sunderland are: “Thing is if you
tell an Accrington Stanley fan they’re playing Sunderland next season they’ll
probably reply ‘Sunderland, who are they?’” Stephen Porter took the opportunity to remind Sunderland fans of
their frequent jibe to ‘enjoy Burton’ when Newcastle were relegated to the Championship in
2015-16. “Enjoy
Burton they said - we did. Enjoy Rotherham they said - we did. Hope you lot
enjoy Accrington. Here’s a look at your view from the away end.” Sunderland’s
relegation could be confirmed this Saturday if they fail to beat Burton Albion
and other results go against them. |

If I was a Sunderland fan it is trips to the likes of Stanley that would be soothing the pain! A great little trip.

We're both massive fans of League 1 PM but the trips are geographically awful for us. The 2nd longest trip you can get in the country being Plymouth v Sunderland sums it up really. Stanley won't be nothing special cos their stadium only holds 5k so the away section will be minimal! Our closest trip will be Doncaster, been there a few times as my lasses' family is from there but it's still a good 2 and a half hour drive away

There was talk of moving fixtures with the furthest distance to midweek, the theory being that it will allow more fans to make the shorter trips at the weekends. The logistics of doing this would be trick too.

Little bird whispered in my ear told me there'll be more news on the takeover front in the next month, an actual serious buyer. Eastleigh FC's owner was confronted by a consortium for a boost in cash but he tried to get them to back his own club rather than join them. Who? We'll never know until it actually concludes cos they're signed under NDA to stay anonymous so it's pointless guessing.

I think they actually do that. Frankly, it does make more sense, given the huge number of midweek games in the Championship. The other way round is tricky: how many away fans would Sunderland get at Plymouth on a Saturday and Doncaster on a Tuesday? 300 to each? Maybe 500? Certainly not 1,000. But Doncaster on a Saturday might well get 2,000, even if Plymouth on Tuesday only gets 200. |
