Went fairly quickly, terrible news.  An absolutely tremendous player, hugely under-rated outside of Celtic.  When me Da took us to Celtic Park in 1981, they took on Juventus in the European Cup, Brady was playing with Juve and Tardelli, Cabrini, Gentile, Zoff, all those wonderful players.  Celtic won 1-0, Burns was the best player on the park that night, lovely balance, great passer, lovely left peg, the fans loved him.  Unlucky enough as Celtic Gaffer at a time when the Huns were lording it and always impeccably behaved.  Rest in Peace Tommy, you can have a laugh now with Jinky up there.......

Yeah, terrible news, Burns was Celtic through and through. 15 years as a player and 3 as manager, his Celtic team in 90's played brilliant football and were unlucky not to stop Rangers in theyre 9 in a row. He's also the man who signed Phil O Donnell.  R.I.P

Its a shame. He was a really nice man when I met him at an IRELAND game.
May he rest in peace.

Couldn't believe it when I heard on Sky News yesterday morning.

This Pic was taken just under a year ago:

There was a nice tribute to Tommy Burns from Ally McCoist in the Daily Record. He said he had tears in his eyes when he heard the news. It just goes to show that there are more important things then football.

Very true donal, its great to see tributes from our old rivals, especially people like ally mccoist. Also at celtic park there are plenty of tributes from the descent rangers fans which is great to see. Was watching celtic tv the other night, was documentary about the double winning team of centenary year of 1988, at the end after the cup final win there was interview with tommy, where he said what a proud day it was and a big hello to his family. Nearly brought tear to the eye, tommy was a true genteleman from what i heard.

Little poem sent to me about Tommy;

Don't stand at my grave and weep,
Im in heavens Parkhead executive seat,
Im here with wee Jinky and the boss Jock Stein,
This is like Paradise you've never seen.

The beer runs free, the banter is great,
Fitbaw games are playing and the bars are open late,
Irish songs are chanting,The Fields of Athenry
Oh baby let the free birds fly.

Everyone is wearing the hoops of the green and white,
only the elite get in,there's no blue light in sight.
The huddle is just like a clone,
All i know is that I'l never walk alone.

God Bless Tommy Burns.

Very nice HM, sad day for Celtic FC.  I was reading Davie Provan's tribute on the Celtic website, he picked out the Juve game that I mentioned on this thread as Tommy's finest hour, I couldn't agree more with Davie.  Let's hope Tommy will help inspire victory on Thursday.

Fitting close to an emotional week, incredible scenes at Tannadice as Celtic took the SPL, Darren O'Dea was in tears!  Well done Celtic, 3 in a Row!
