And what exactly did playing against Slovakia do for his confidence ?
As I said in another thread I think he needs a break from the pressures of the Irish team, captain, penalty taker, primary goalscorer. I genuinely think he would benefit from not having the pressure of a meaningless friendly to turn in a good performance. If he is rubbish against Norway and misses a few chances what then ?
I also believe that he could do worse than going to see a sports psychologist or something. At this rate the more he plays for us, the worse he seems to be getting. Dropped is always a strong and negative word but if handled correctly I think it needs to be done. We don't have a competitive game for ages now so hoepfully by then he will have moved away from Spurs, will get some first team football and start scoring again. To rely on sporadic International games for form and confidence simply won't work. I think Long deserves as start, and Doyle should partner him.
Sean Og O Hailpin.... his father's from Fermanagh, his mother's from Fiji, neither a hurling stronghold."

I'd love to see McGeady get a run on the right too, or even the long shot that Trap will try something new, and start him behind the 2 boys up front, or one up top. Not a chance of happening :'(

Lads there is no guarantee that Keane will be playing by the time of the Macedonia game in March so we need an alternative.

Playing Keane in November will not give him match practicse for March. So we need to look at an alternative like Stokes or Long or Walters.  I am a big Robbie Keane fan but its not dropping him, its just not playin him for a friendly. I would not play Given Kilbane or Dunne either.

murphy

coleman st ledger oshea ward

mc carthy whelan fahey mc geady

keane stokes

think we should go for a mix of fringe players and experience but have a bit more fringe players

we dont know if we have a good back up keeper so i would put given as a sub

fahey is much better in center midfield but i think lacks a bit of confidence

i'd start keane cos hes not getting much matches at spurs

i'd call up wes houlahan also.

this is a great chance for us to experiment.

there is no point playing too many young lads you need a mix so id say the spine of the team will stay the same with maybe kilbane, robbie dropped and one of the mids dropped and maybe duff or hunt to come back on the wing

cunningham and long to start but a few of the younger boys to come on mid way in second half, coleman was not even in the orignal squad do doubt he will start not trapps style,
But fumble in a greasy till

And add the halfpence to the pence

And pray to shivering prayer, until

You have dried the marrow from the bone.

Still Important to win the friendlies for ranking points so I would start with a fairly strong team. Try and build a lead then make some changes. Think it will be 4-4-2 no matter what but it would be nice to see a change in formation too 4-3-3 or 4-5-1 which would suit some of the less experienced players - Coleman, McCarthy, Fahey and Stokes

Given

Coleman     Dunne    St. Ledger   O'Shea

McCarthy   Whelan   Gibson    McGeady

Keane   Doyle

Subs to get at least half an hour

Wilson for Whelan
Long for Doyle
Stokes for Keane
Cunningham for O'Shea
Fahey for McGeady

What I hope he plays

Given (unlikely to be playing for City by then unless there's an injury)
Coleman Dunne St. Ledger Ward
Fahey McCarthy Gibson Tracey
Long Doyle

I'd bring in Foley, Walters, Cunningham and Stokes at some stage.

He won't play this team or anything like it.

Depending on injuries I don't see him using any more than 3 non-regulars. In some ways it would be no harm if a few of the regulars developed a small Ryan Giggs style "twinge" the week before the game thereby forcing Trapp to make more changes that be might want.
Sean Og O Hailpin.... his father's from Fermanagh, his mother's from Fiji, neither a hurling stronghold."

Regardless of what the team I think Coleman MUST get a start.
Surely Fahy and Long did enough in Slovakia to deserve starts.

I agree whole heartedly that Keane should be left out of this one Andy

                   Given,
O'Shea Dunne Ledge Cunningham
Fahey McCarthy Whelan McGeady
               Keane Long

Keane needs games so will play and he is also captain.

I'd then introduce the following players.

Westwood for Given
Walters for Keane
Wilson for McCarthy
Gibson for Whelan
Coleman for Fahey
Foley for O'Shea

I'd give Murphy a go up front
