Needs to start playing regularly but will obviously come into contention.

James McCarthy became Roy Keane over the past few years. If Clark can miss another couple of years he will be Paul McGrath.
I never had confidence in him, he always seemed to be about to make a massive mistake.

Clark reminds me of Wilson. At his best, he's a PL standard defender but always looks capable of doing something daft.

Wilson was one of the worst players to ever play for EIRE

Massively overrated actually. Keogh was actually a lot more solid and effective for us

I’ve always thought he’s a very good defender. Definitely as good an option as John Egan or Shane Duffy. He was really good for Newcastle last season when he was fit

Well obviously written with tongue-in-cheek, it isn't unfair to say that the longer a player goes without playing the better he becomes. That's as true of retired players as ones still available. There's no way Clark was ever better than Egan is currently and the views you expressed are, I believe, because the memory is better than the reality. Likewise, I think McCarthy is going ro be a key player for the next couple years if he can remain fit, largely due to the current dearth of options, but some of those extolling his virtues on here can't have remembered seeing him play because his weaknesses were rarely discussed.

Clark had about 7 years of regular PL football under his belt by Egan's age. Tbh, I think they're actually of very similar ability, good Premier League centre backs who are capable of playing for teams in and around midtable, which surprise surprise is exactly where there find themselves.

We're decent enough..
