Security was a joke on Friday night, only part of the ground with bag checks, patted down on the way in, then you have stewards lining the seats of 114 to make sure people from 112 or 113 couldn't move across and join in, that's why the atmsophere is the way it is. Also the drummer is down the front starting songs of his own while the back of 114 is starting a different song. Drummer needs to be bang centre of 114 and everyone work off him. Also he needs to learn to keep a beat and not go off on a mad change of tune every few minutes.

I was in Cologne last year and caught a game with my girlfriend to sample the German way of doing things. The game was a drab 0-0 with Hoffenheim and the atmosphere was decent (not outstanding) during the game. The game itself was the worst I have ever attended so it was hard to keep the crowd interested throughout.

One thing that struck me though before the game was that everyone to a man stood and sang what was obviously the clubs anthem, swinging their scarfs and flags. My girlfriend went to video the atmosphere and was promptly told by the fans next to her to put her phone away and join in. In the Aviva there are plenty of people recording stuff on their phones instead of joining in.

I think the ss needs to be extended as well. My ticket is in 112 and although only 2 sections away from 114, it is hard to get any sort of atmosphere going. You are promptly told to sit down if you try to stand. For Germany and Bosnia games everyone in that tier were standing and it made for a far better atmosphere. Surely the FAI need to help out with this.

This has definitely played a part in things what with alot of the regulars boycotting games since.

Another factor is the lack of help when trying to arrange something. Thats one of the main reasons no banners are up and tifos only out for the big games. It's was the same 3 or 4 people left to look after doing all that for games. Granted was loads of help for the playoff game but in general it's left to a small group
the closest i will ever come to playing for ireland https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o0_7w4JyvI4

Maybe Ireland could do with a continental style, megaphone carrying Capo.

Agree, if that whole area was singing section it would be great.

Where you'd put away fans though is a question you'd ask move them to 114?

We all remember what happened last time, though I agree with proper security they should be up in a corner of the stadium

Stadiums all across Europe put away fans in the upper tiers. With proper security there's no issue. The signing section in the North Stand would look brilliant with all the flag space and more importantly sound brilliant.

The problem is its an easier job for the Gardai having away fans in the North stand with the entrance points etc so unfortunately it's a no goer

North stand is way too small to look any way impressive or intimidating. 31 rows at it's peak I think and less than that for most of it. No chance of atmosphere spreading from their either. View is dreadful down there as well. Plus the cops prefer having the north for away fans for ease of policing.

Tuesday night really showed how important the SS has been for atmosphere at home games. Even though people complain about the same songs being sung, it makes a huge difference to the game and the fans all around the stadium. It's a shame we have lost so many regulars over the last campaign but absolutely wouldn't blame them for that. Just hope that we can continue to expand it and get some form of cash to get the TIFOs and flags out for every game.

We have plenty of flags, problem is people aren't arsed waving them and some that do tend to keep them for some reason

Ah that's a shame. Didn't realise that that's what the problem was.

Its not the FAI's job to create an atmosphere. That is down to the fans. The FAI can help by allowing flags to be stored and a signing section to be ticketed, which they do. But when that singing section tries, and fails abjectly, to remove the CEO, what did you expect was going to happen? I go back to my point last week. Are the SS an Ultras group or just a choir. Pick one, you can't be both.

Thats a rather silly statement, the singing section is exactly what it says on the tin " A SINGING SECTION"
If there was a fans liaison officer, which there was rumours that there was one, maybe the singing section could work with this officer to create more of an atmosphere. Surely it should be up to others in other parts of the stadium as well to help create a better atmosphere rather than sitting there doing feck all, i used to be in the west upper and tbh you would hear a pin drop in that stand.
