Same here, not a big fan of just the jigs and reels. Songs make the sessions all the better, and some quality ballads posted up here lads.

And always a discussion whether or not songs are Irish or not. Ordinary man was written by a Grimsby man, and like many songs Christy made a great version of it, but it's not his. And on that subject, Dirty Old town was wriiten by Ewan MacColl who wrote about his home town in England.

Quality tunes either way though!Thumbs%20Up

At a funeral yesterday (my mates oul lad died) Clondalkin. A mate of ours is a singer and plays in Clondalkin on Bank Hol sundays. He came up from Wexford and did all the hymms etc and sang My Old Man, dont think there was a dry eye in the church. Fabulous tune.

Eh, they are two different songs as far as i'm aware. @Waltzing Matilda is the aussie song whereas 'The band played waltzing matilda' is the song about the anzac troops in gallipoli made famous the the pogues where they break into a chorus of waltzing matilda in the latter parts of the song.

Not familiar with a song called flogging molly but they are a great band!

My bad Embarrassed. Blarney Pilgrim is the song, dunno where i got the above. When i was in Sydney a band used to play it every Sunday night and the whole pub would erupt mental stuff. Here is the song and dont mind the film, its the first song Gaelic Storm plays!    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U50hqJS2ock

Does anybody know where the Irish song "The Old Bog Road" is based. It mentions Ferran or Ferrans and there's a Ferrans in County Meath and a Ferran in County Kildare. Wondering which one.
