It's a pity he's pushing 31 and playing at a low level. Mick also doesn't have the luxury of trying him in friendlies.

That said it's very hard to ignore his impressive scoring against much stronger opposition. He's one of our 3 regularly scoring strikers this season in English football along with McGoldrick & Curtis.

Would be nice to see him get a move to a higher league in the summer.

James Collins has 19 goals in League One

Yah I missed that. Didn't realize his scoring record was that good.  Thumbs Up

Funny thing is i'm staying a night in Luton in a couple of weeks and checked to see if they were playing at home that evening as I was gonna head to it but they're not. Had a look at their squad last week on wikipedia and was surprised that they have 4/5 Irish lads in their squad.

Would like to see them get into the championship from an Irish perspective.

Possibly my favourite ground, shame it won't be there much longer. However, and I must stress I have had fun on my visits to Luton, but why on earth are you staying there? It is hardly for a cheap  romantic weekend?
Anyway, Wardown Park is nice, if you must. And it's about 2 pints for a fiver in their Yate's and always a few characters knocking about it. I wouldn't fancy living there though.

Shouldn't be in the squad. Not international standard. Doesnt improve the squad and isnt one for the future.

It's 37 or something man squad. Barring injury crisis, he's getting cut. Collins will stay in I imagine .

Absolutely. There was no need to include him at all. He is 31 years old and playing in League 2. On the bright side is that he will never be seen again after this squad as Obafemi, Robinson and Bamford will all be in the next one.

He had no choice . Had to call up a big squad. To inspire the players that everybody gets notice.

Amond has scored as many goals against Premiership sides as Shane Long in the last 2 seasons, whether that stat is irrelevant to some, so be it, but Shane Long starts in what 90% of our matches?

But Shame Long plays for Southampton... not Newport County. Most here couldn’t point out Newport on a map of Wales, never mind Britain.

Would that be Newport in Mayo or Tipp ?Wink

Shane Long "plays" against these PL sides week in week out and can't score, yet he's a forward? Amond has scored against City, Leicester and Spurs in 4 matches (played twice against Spurs) yet Long is somehow undroppable?

What has geography got to do with a debate regarding two players Confused

Long has been undroppable for Ireland for years now, very rarely does he not start in competitive matches for us despite offering absolutely zero goal threat.

Shane Long has been incredibly lucky career wise, extremely limited player techincally who heavily relied on work rate and pace to get to where he is today. He is no more than an average Championship player in truth but is on a massive contract at St Mary's so they'll find it hard to move him on.

We already know Long won't score so why persist with him? We will beat Gibraltar regardless, that is a formality why not give Collins or Amond a start?

Don't see the big deal. It's a 38 man squad, he's had a great season including goals against some of the best clubs in England, and is getting rewarded. Highly unlikely he'll make the main squad. Even if he does, so what? Calm the fook down everyone.
I dont email the count anymore, its been 9 months : ( He even sent me a YBIG scarf for my Birthday

Amond is an out and out finisher (from playing with him/against him) and seeing his career pan out since we were kids, he is very much in the mould of Robbie Keane in that if you give him a sniff in front of goal he'll score.

One of the main reason's he hasn't reached the Championship/PL is that he lacks genuine pace (obviously you can factor in how good techincally players in the leagues mentioned are)

I would have no doubts, seeing him start against Gibraltar (Georgia might be a level up too far for him) but who knows.

We need clinical strikers against Gibraltar, not battering rams like Long.

I like the idea of almond playing against Gibraltar they are a division 2 team or less... we should hammer them, but mick cant risk it... so long or Maguire will start

Come on Irelind
