I always found it strange how people keep saying he's a poor goalscorer. Name an Irish forward that's a good one at his level. McGoldrick and Robinson are substantially worse than Long was at his peak in terms of scoring goals at PL or even Championship level. Long was a better goalscorer than Walters when you factor in goals per minutes played and goals strictly from open play. Doyle had, I think, about for four great seasons in terms of goals but the rest was, largely, abysmal.

He should've dropped down a year or two ago but Long was a proven commodity at PL level for ten odd years and there's a reason he stayed at that level.

Walters was a winger for a long period of his career. Think it was only around 2010 that he was considered more of a centre forward.

I know Long has been played out of position but more on occasion than consistently.

If he can get some games under his belt I'd have him in the first 11 come March.

A forward three of -

Robinson  Long  Connolly

Bags of goals there

There is no Irish forward like that has bags of goals.

Having a forward that can score a goal here and there would be great. I agree that none of our forward options looks like they have an international goal in them.

Further to that is that we dont have a midfielder that you think could pop up with a goal from open play.

Its all OK though... we have about 8 weeks to find one LOLLOL

Would have an on-form Long back in an instant, but he won’t definitely start for Bournemouth. Solanke is their lone striker and one of the top scorers in the league. David Brooks is not even a guaranteed starter.
You asked if I'd be anyone from history, fact or fiction, dead or alive:
I said "I'd be Tony Cascarino, circa 1995"

A great move for Long. He'll have an opportunity to finally score some goals again when he comes up against championship centre backs.

I have a suspicion that Long is going to struggle to make himself the first team forward in this team.

Additionally - looks like his arrival will impact Kilkenny getting himself on the bench.

Dropping points to Wycombe and Sheff Wed in their circumstances is a disaster but having them 6th when people thought they would drop down to absolute irrelevancy is pretty good going tbh, next game against a poor Rotherham side too.
