Strange to believe that he was a certainty to start in the central midfield role under mccarthy about 10 months ago and now he struggles to finish a game at Struggling Fleetwood.

Anyway the reason for posting is that for some reason I think of all the irish players that have retired over the last few years, I really think Whelan would be suited to a managerial role.

Not all good managers were good players and over the years Whelan has shown commitment, determination, focus and a host of other qualities that will transfer to a manager position... just a thought anyway.

Whaaaaat?? That sound suspicious. You rarely if ever see a hammering like that in the EFL. Surely this will be looked at...

Surprised the Northampton manager didn't rant about bribes or corruption. I guess it's only all those non-English teams and referees who would engage in such a thing.

Lofty praise for Glenn from Joey Barton: https://www.bristolpost.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/joey-barton-makes-admission-glenn-7054720

Barton says Glenn was the better player when they were at City together. Not sure about that!

What's so hard to believe in Whelan being better than Barton during their time together in the Man City youth team?

Joey was a good player. Played for strong top ten-standard PL teams with serious talent in Man City and Newcastle and had serious competition in midfield. Played for Marseille, who are traditionally one of the biggest names in France, and earned the adulation of their hardcore fanbase. Was capped by England! Probably would've earned more caps if he didn't alienate senior players like Frank Lampard. Standards only started slipping a ways into his spell at QPR when he was well into his thirties.

He's a headbanger but let's give him some credit here.

Whelan was a good PL pro and, obviously, had the better international career by virtue of getting capped regularly by a weaker nation but I don't think he was as good as Barton.

Far more limited in his purview. Not nearly as good technically. Less of a headcase, though.

Whelan stayed in the Stoke team for nearly a decade but every time they tried to replace him (Palacios, Imbula), the other options turned out to be absolutely sh*te more than Whelan being really good.

Also, and other people's mileage will vary on this, extremely frustrating player for Ireland.

What has any that got to do with Barton saying Whelan was better than him in the Man City youth team?

Mainly said poster having severe difficulty taking people at their word.
