Glenn Whelan

Didn't do too badly given his lack of recent playing time. Hearts look a poor side though - no win in 10 league games now. Celtic were well on top throughout.

Compared to say, Arter being the standout player for Fulham since he's gone there (playing in holding midfield and all). He has this game and very likely another 90 mins before the swiss game. I would much prefer Arter but I think McCarthy will go with the experience of Whelan.

If all our players are fully fit and playing, I don't see Whelan starting.

McCarthy should be the one replacing Whelan against the Swiss.

However, McCarthy has his favorites and Whelan could be considered one of them.

It will be interesting to see if Cullen plays against Bulgaria, hopefully he does a long side some of the other fringe players.

This thread gone very quiet, only Glen Whelan knockers on here.I just watched a full replay of the Ireland v Switzerland match.Glen Whelan by far Ireland's man of match, great midfield display of passing and closing down the Swiss.Has to start against Georgia and Switzerland,I don't care how old he is.Best midfielder we have.

The Swiss walked through us but Whelan put in some great tackles.Hendrix and Hourihane are not up to it .If McCarthy is fit, play him against Georgia alongside Whelan.We had one shot on target against the Swiss, when Whelan hit the crossbar.

Away and sh*te  Hitting the crossbar isn’t a shot on target I would imagine McGoldrick’s goal was the one shot on target.
