Why not let James McCarthy's run of games start against Gibraltar? Absolutely no point in playing Whelan.

He has no hairs or graces for being a top pro and celeb.

Meanwhile Glenn Whelan has not actually retired after saying goodbye to the crowd last November.  Doctors say he may have contracted his condition from Shay Given who wants to take whats rightfully his from whoever is in goals these days.  Shay wants to be called Seamie from now on.  Shay-me.

Will the crowd have to do that awkward saying goodbye again and again with Glenn like that Fr, Ted episode with the female novelist?

''Good luck with the book!''

''Ah hello again.  Good luck with the book!''

''Well hello!''

I’ve no problem with Glenn Whelan coming back...those of us unfortunate to be in the Aviva for the match against the North would in my opinion have admitted he was our best player on the night and when he did go off we got worse....we lost all control of midfield with the annoyingly good Steven Davis having a lovely night 🙄

Don't really have a problem with him being included, we really lack any type of depth in centre mid.

If he can still offer something to the team, which I think he can (was our best player against the North recently until he was taken off, and is getting game time at Villa), then I'd gladly have him in the squad.

Absolutely ran the show for Villa on Saturday. He was the  the heartbeat of the team, nothing fancy but kept the play moving and the Holte End we're chanting his name throughout. Great to see him in a team with a bit of possession

One of the advantages of living in England is that you only get to hear Dunphy if you really want to listen.
