Sounds more like the flux capacitor is broken, are you struggling to get to 88 mph?

Ok so I have my NCT at the end of next month is it ok ? Cause to be honest I dont understand what you just said Embarrassed

when the engine hasn't warmed up it might rev slightly higher just to keep it turning over, then once it has warmed up it will return to normal rev's while idling. On the other hand you car might be fooked Wink.

Should effect the NCT as its not a safety issue.

FAO 9fingers...Sausy ...and other car freaks
We have 03 Opel Zafira...NCT is due soon..she is eating oil
Doesn't run great and cut out today (no oil in it)
Seems to eat the juice aswel....
Offered a 04 Ford C Max 1.6....from a car dealer mate
He wants e1000 plus my motor...says the Ford is in great shape etc etc
NCT up to 06/14..but there's 175,000 on the clock
Don't know wether that's miles or kms?
Sounds alot to me,there's 88,000 miles on my yoke
Whats your opinions?
Don't wanna horse a load of cash into my yoke
The fact it's eating oil(not leaking) isn't good sign
Got a new timing belt in it last year aswel

Being a 04 I'd imagine its miles, it is quite a lot but if it has serviced regularly and had the timing belt changed then it shouldn't be in too bad of condition. The Cmax would be a superior car in pretty much every way to the zafira. Timing belt interval on it is every 100k so it should be due again at200k miles. If its your mate selling it to you, ya'd like to think that he's doing you a decent deal. What's year is the Opel?

Just doin a quick scan on done deal there, 03 zafiras goin for 1500 approx and 04 Cmax goin for 2700 so taking the mileage into the equation it's not that great of a deal, but you would be getting a problem off your hands.
All I can say is, I'd rather a good condition Cmax with 180k on it than a not great condition zafira with 90k on it. Way more reliable car.

Edit yes ask about the belt, but it's not a hugely expensive job to do

have a look yourself for the timing belt being changed. Plenty of mecanics will mark the engine with tipex noting when the belt was changed ie. TB70 - changed at 70k

It's 85k past it's replacement interval, knowing that engine I'd be amazed if it hasn't but worthwhile checking.

No it's not the battery by the sounds of it. More serious than that by the sounds of it, especially if its burning a lot of oil

BSM i know nothing about motors but to keep a battery charged you would need to drive a car often without anything that would drain the batterry i/e wipers/ heating / lights / demister etc etc  i have a spare car at home which  i use once a day to drive half a mile to take my two Dogs out to the park - it is now 9 years old with only 55000 miles on the clock and the battery is fecked due to non usage Cry

How do you know if a timing belt has been changed or not?

(Mine is well due at this stage 80k.)
It was far across the sea,
When the devil got a hold of me,
He wouldn't set me free,
So he kept me soul for ransom.

Only 2 ways really, 1 as Sausy says check the timing cover for tippex or stickers and 2 check service history book.
