I'm not disagreeing with you. I'd have the young lads in who are hungry to deliver and are showing they may have higher ceilings than the experienced(!) lads. But I believe SK will go with experience for this Faro match.

I'm not disagreeing with you either. Just highlighting the ridiculous use of the word "experience" when it comes to the Irish team. I find it a lazy and vague term that lacks any substance more often than not. If younger players put in the performances Hourihane has it would be put down to lack of "experience" and their inclusion in squads would be questioned. Hourihane just keeps getting game time. I just can't get my head around how Kenny can rewatch Hourihane's performances for Ireland and not have serious concerns. His first touch against Hungary was to give the ball away. Our "ball playing" midfielder who seems to be a bundle of nerves on the ball unless he's playing against substandard opposition who won't press him.

Hourihane to Sheffield United if report are to go by. Would be a very good move for him.
Hope he gets the start he had at Swansea.

Hasn't started for SU since being named in the Sky Bet Team of the Week on the back of his performance against Hull.

this man gets a lot of stick on here. Yes, at the top level he gets shown up but he's a lovely baller as tonight showed. Worked hard too which is a weakness usually. Set the tone early on with interceptions and had a role in 3 goals. Great deliveries too. Well done Conor.

Subbed off after 38 mins, doesn't seem to be injury, Sheffield United fans on twitter (for what it's worth) are not happy with his contribution.

Seemingly not injured, just awful. Must have been to be subbed off before half time. We've seen him have many similar performances ourselves unfortunately.

Getting a 3 rating is brutal. I'm hoping hourihane can turn this around but these poor performances are not a new phenomenon with him. I think the ireland first 3 midfielders would be Hendrick, Cullen and Knight. Id have mcgrath and kilkenny next in the pecking order.

I personally don't think he is near international standard. Bit of melting chocolate right foot effort for the winner in Slovakia. Hans Moleman effort it twas. But apart form that I just think he should be about 6th choice midfielder.

We really need maybe even just two of Molumby, Coventry, Kilkenny and Taylor to kick on along with Knight, McGrath and Cullen (who seem to already be at the level we need) and that will probably be the end of it for Hourihane at international level.
Don't get me wrong, he'll probably pop up with another belter of a free kick or something in a few weeks time, but his all round game is nowhere near good enough and never has been.

Agreed, Thomas O'Connor is another who could be worth a look, left footed also. Doyle Hayes will be hoping to get a look in too.

Hourihane is like Brady. All left foot but offers nothing else. His time is over and there are better more hungrier players who can take his place.

Hard to say what's gone wrong with Hourihane.
He only started playing senior football at 20, so it's not a case of being burnt out. He's went through his entire career without picking up injuries, so it's not a case of his body breaking down. Jokanovic doesn't seem to have much use for him despite trying to sign him in the past for a team in the same division. |

It's not hard to say at all. It's exactly the same story as his Ireland performances. He's a dead ball specialist & has nice goals/assists stats, but in open play he's incredibly limited. He lacks mobility/physicality, he doesn't want to get on the ball but when he does he's slow & entirely one-footed, & he's not fond of getting stuck in. You could say he's not suited to the 6 & should be up the pitch, but that's where he played for Swansea when people were saying he was doing well, and their fans said the same thing - nice goals/assists from set-pieces, but too often anonymous in open play. Pushing 31, his limitations aren't going to improve, perhaps he should consider a move to a slower paced league on the continent. |

He hasn't got any outstanding physical attributes, no pace, no strength, no bite to his game, doesn't really want to be on the pitch or want the ball. He's actually not an awful footballer, if he had James McClean's aggression, pace and drive he'd be a good player.

Brady the same he's a player that screams to me continental League where many of them are often slower. Hes actually decent on the ball and can be deadly in a team that's dominating the ball. For Villa in their first year up he was a huge asset in relegation six pointers and wouldnt have stayed up without him.
Problem is he gets runover against sides that don't let his dominate the ball like the Top 6/8 in the PL or a lot of aggressive sides in the Championship. He was majestic against Qatar who let us have the ball against Portugal he would have been embarrassed and so on. He's 31 so isn't getting younger by the time March 2023 comes around we need to be moving on from him especially if Kilkenny Taylor Molumby McGrath Ronan Smallbone and Knight etc keep improving.

Bench again. What was the point in moving there? Hasn't even been given a run of games.
