It's obvious that he's only of use playing in an advanced position. Need to utilise his goalscoring abilities cause he's not much use elsewhere.

If your going to play him play him at 10 with Cullen Knight 2 workhorses in behind him. He needs to be up high as in supporting the striker though.

Manning played a lovely ball too. He’s in a battle with Bidwell who has been as good a left back as there is in the Championship this year.

He’s been unlucky he’d be starting for most other teams in the Championship.

Manning’s pass was sublime. His versatility might be a bonus with all the injuries in the squad.
One City,One County,One Club GUFC will be back.

the problem with the number 10 position for Ireland is Stephen Kenny wants a high-energy number 10 who will press. You're not going to get this from Hourihane.

Maybe Kenny will just have to accept that he's going to be "that" luxury player in the number 10 role. if the trade-off is that he's getting into similar positions as he is for Swansea and getting goals well then happy days.

as said before when Hourihane isn't scoring goals he's not really doing much else. Kenny needs to try and unlock whatever code it is in order to accommodate Conor. whatever it is it's definitely going to involve the two midfielders behind being high-energy and zero tolerance for anybody going missing during games.

playing Hourihane as a luxury 10 against teams like Luxembourg who have a nice squad and are developing but still we should be dominating isn’t something that we really should be worried about even with a lack of workrate.

I found Hourihane for Villa was a huge asset against bottom half teams who Villa generally hunted for possession more then. His set piece ability etc and eye for goal was an asset they wouldn’t have stayed up without it.

Against the big 6/7 teams who dominated the ball Hourihane was a liability for Villa didn’t have the legs.

You might get away with this against Serbia if you played him further forward supporting the striker with 2 workhorses like Knight and Cullen.

Ultimately it decisions like that will be on how Kenny is judged.
He should pick his team and his system around the players available to him rather than shoe horn what we have into his system

Do we really have a high energy no.10 in the form of Hendrick? Certainly doesn’t seem like it anyway and he’s not playing that much for Newcastle. Hourihane will more than likely be in the team against Serbia. He should be played in his best position where he could offer us goals than playing as a 6 and largely go missing for a lot of the game. Cullen, Knight and Hourihane offers more energy and players playing in there best position.

I'd be quite happy with a middle three of Cullen, Knight and Hourihane.
Our issues with goals wont be solved but at least two of them of know how to score once in a while.

Further forward is looking grim unless Connolly has healed up a bit and can get out there, but that's fanciful at this stage.

Knight actually out of form last few weeks looks tired

Not a surprise that is nearly the first name on the teamsheet for Derby is only turned 20 and the way he goes about it he does the work of two players. I don’t think it would stop him putting in a shift for us mind.

Would you play Molumby ahead of Knight at the moment?

Molumby shouldn't be near the team the way he is playing Hendrick Hourihane Knight Cullen Brady Browne all a fair bit in front of this year
Hourihane actually played right attacking midfielder today

This is the thing. Kenny wants the best of both worlds. in an ideal scenario we would have somebody with the skill set of Jack Byrne and the energy levels of molumby in kenny's number 10 role.

Kenny needs to get realistic about who he wants to play play in the hole if he is going to play that role.

If you're going to play Hourihane you need to give him plenty of support and surround him with legs.he needs to be receiving the ball in the final third

Cullen, knight Hourihane would be my preferred midfield also given what's available.

Browne could be the dark horse for the number 10 role, but it's very hard to ignore Hourihane's goal scoring record in a team that can't score.

Considering he starts virtually every game and goes missing in every one of them, it's odd we don't really cede that many chances.

That suggests he's doing something right.

Hourihane shouldn't be near the team.

Gives the ball away, hasn't an ounce of strength or bite about him, can't run, can't pass and his dead ball delivery is completely over rated.

The alternatives are not a whole lot better, but atleast we might learn something from giving Josh Cullen and Jason Knight a chance.

It's utterly depressing that an odd goal for a championship team puts him in most peoples first choice elevens.

We're at an all time low.

I'm not a fan of hourihane and have been critical of him but he's in good scoring form and I would say he needs to play.

I know goals scored by hourihane doesn't mean he's good over the 90mins and I'm not sure what the reason was that he was substituted after an hour
Could have been tactical, injury or that he was having little impact on the game.

For me, we can't play a team of Brady, hourihane and hendrick as I feel all are luxury playes. Cullen and Knight need to start with one of hendrick, Brady or hourihane.

None of this stopped Glenn Whelan from getting almost a hundred caps and some people revere him.

Say what you want about Hendrick and Hourihane but the team is a lot less easy to play through now.

Still the same old familiar failings going forward however.
