It looked like we should have had a penalty in first half when Duffus was bundled over by a Rovers defender. Ref had a long look at it but gave a goal kick. Diving header at near post from sub Gary Shaw won it for Rovers. Unlucky to lose, Akinade hit the post and then Manus made a great save on the line near the end to deny him again. Akinade needs to be dropped at this stage as is off form and missing too many chances.

Was that the one that was shown on Soccer Republic? Looked very obviously like Duffus engineered the contact and then rolled over and he was correctly booked by the ref.

Yes. After seeing it on Soccer Republic I understand why it wasn't given now as both players bumped into each other shoulder to shoulder but at the game live it looked different and many fans and Alan Reynolds believed it was a penalty then. I don't think he was booked but Stanley Aborah was for arguing about the decision.

Poor result again for us tonight in Limerick, reports suggest we scored, or well at least, the ball crossed the line, late on when it was still 1-1. Wasn't given & Limerick then got the winner. That's no win in 4 games, and 3 of those were at home.
I think we have made a balls of the transfer window to be honest, we seem to have gone for a quantity rather than quality approach when it seemed obvious that it was quality we were lacking. We have signed 3 more midfielders in Wilson, Hutchinson and Galvin, but are still picking the first team from the midfielders who were already there. Signed 2 more centre backs in Baba & some Latvian chap today, one would have probably been enough, and we don't know if those 2 are going to be any good at LOI as yet. Hunt was signed up front, and that was a signing that was needed, although maybe it shouldn't have stopped at just him. He looks lively enough for a 35 year old to be fair to him, but Duffus is on a bad run of scoring and Akinade isn't much of a goalscorer, think another forward proven at LOI level or elsewhere should also have been sought. I see Dylan Watts scored for Shamrock Rovers tonight and wonder would we have been better off just signing him, or someone like him, with proven quality instead of 5 other lads who collectively, are unlikely to make too much difference, as they won't all be put into the team together in any case. If they aren't going to make a substantial difference nor ready for action from the off, whats the point in signing that volume of lads in the first place. |

Yeah very bad result tonight and now Rovers are only a point behind us. Derry are also creeping up on us and we have to travel there on the 17th Aug and then on the 31st Aug we play St Pats away who results pending could be still in a shout to over take us.
Next up is the Munster derby at home to Cork City next Friday night. A win is a huge ask but a draw would be an good result. Rovers due to play Dundalk next weekend but that will obv be rescheduled

An intense rivalry between two teams, nearly always, but not exclusively, local.

Bullsh*t. Intense rivalry or not, Waterford v Cork is a local derby due to geography.

It is a local, ish, match, not a derby. Not every local game is a derby. Should City draw Fermoy in the cup, again, it isn't a derby. When we play Limerick, it isn't a derby and when we play Waterford, guess what? It isn't a derby.Lots of people trying to make it a derby, doesn't make it a derby!

Fermoy v Cork is a Cork derby. If you believe otherwise, this is a pointless exchange.

So does that make every local junior match a derby because the two teams are local? Is UCD and Cabinteely a derby because they are both based in Dublin? Only true Munster derby is Ramblers vs Wanderers.

You also wouldn’t call Bray vs Cabo a derby despite both teams being located about 8km from each other. There has to be some history of rivalry and success between the two clubs involved for a game to be a real derby for me.
