Are pithes in the league of ireland smaller in size than english premier league pitches?  They look a lot smaller on tv. Would this be due to a lower camera angle foreshortening the view of the pitch whereas in england the camera angle is higher up?  Even when im at a match here the pitch seems small especially the area between the box and the touchline.  Im quite bored today so these questions are popping into my mind.

Think FIFA set the min and max pitch sizes, so there could be a difference but it must still be within the set dimensions

i just wanted to know if the dimensions of a league of ireland pitch are the same as say old trafford etc.. It may be an optical illusion but terrylands pitch et al seem to look narrower.

Pitch dimensions

FIFA Guidelines -

90m to 110m in length and 45m-90m in width

Terryland Park  - 102m  x 66m  = 6732m2

Old trafford - 105m  x  68m  = 7140m2

so to answer your question Old trafford is bigger

The standard soccer field measurement limits changed over time, adapting to the particular period of time they applied to. With the rise in popularity of soccer and the increasing number of live spectators to each match, the upper width and length limits were also raised, allowing for bigger stadiums and better entertainment. In 2007, the minimum and maximum values for soccer field sizes are:

Minimum length: 100 yards (90 meters)
Maximum length: 130 yards (120 meters)
Minimum width: 50 yards (45 meters)
Maximum width: 100 yards (90 meters)

Although these sizes apply for local matches, there is a slight adjustment in the field layout when it comes to international matches:

International match minimum length: 110 yards (100 meters)
International match maximum length: 120 yards (110 meters)
International match minimum width: 70 yards (64 meters)
International match maximum width: 80 yards (75 meters)

i remember brian kerr narrowed the width of the pitch in lansdowne by a couple of metres because of the opposition. think it was switzerland or france. Anyway thats resorting to tricks to try to win a game rather than play good football to win it.  Kerr thought he was being smart. Was one of the most passionless displays of all time.
