He did play himself, and I have to completely disagree he was the best. That's why people around the world loved Cooper ! He was the "everyman". Admittedly he did have his faults, everyone knows he was a big womaniser (it should be said though that he and his wife did agree that their marriage would be of an "open" variety) Cooper made no secret that he was a Republican. Yet he was close friends with Ernest Hemingway - who was a socialist. Off screen he had a reputation as a very quiet, polite, courteous man who preferred to spend time hunting, fishing or ploughing on his farm. A lot of people don't know that he was only a first generation American, his parents were both English immigrants. Believe it or not, there used to be a huge stigma about cancer and Gary Cooper played a big part in smashing it. Pre-1960 few people admitted to suffering from cancer or having a loved one with the disease. It was a taboo to talk about cancer. It was even seen as shameful. In 1959, Cooper was diagnosed with prostate cancer that spread to his colon and bones. He fought it hard but of course he could never beat it. About a month before his death in 1960 as rumours spread about his illness he gave an interview where he admitted he had cancer, that wasn't ashamed about it and talked about how we needed to live healthier lives and how it was time for governments to put mega money into research into fighting cancer. Overnight, cancer no longer became a dirty word never to be said. It was noted that donations to cancer research institutes went through the roof after Cooper's admission. So to conclude, he lived and died a long time before I was even born but I bloody love Gary Cooper to bits. Give Morocco, A Farewell to Arms, The General Died at Dawn, Mr Deeds Goes To Town, Meet John Doe, Pride of the Yankees, For Whom the Bell Tolls amongst other a watch. He was super in all of them. And in Seven Days Leave, he even wears a kilt ! If Gary Cooper managed Scotland we would have won multiple Word Cups. Coop was that kind of guy.

I’m talking about Eastwood! Not Barney either! Cooper seemed a likeable sort.

The Nightingale. Excellent film about an Irish convict in Australia that has a horrific experience at the hands of British Soldiers, so she sets out to get revenge. Even though it's set in Australia, it's basically a western. 8/10.

Dolemite is my name on Netflix. I thought it was very good and funny, Eddie Murphy is excellent and Wesley Snipes too also cameos from Chris Rock and Snoop Dog. Its about Rudy Ray Moore a 70's Comedian/MC/singer that wants to make a film for black audiences to enjoy, Very funny and a true story.

Went to see Western Stars last night for the one night only showing.
It was a little self indulgent, a little corny but at the same time, magic.

Change Skynet for Legion John Connors for a female T-1000 for a Latin Rev-9 Basically the same story line as T2. Wasn't great.

Why are so many new films flogging to death old successful films from 30 yrs ago? They are utterly sh*te. How many Terminators have been made since T2? How many Jurassic Park's have been made, Star Wars... It must be easy as f**k being a movie company director these days. ''Hmm we need to release a new film for 2020. Anyone any ideas?'' ''There's a rhino loose in the city?'' ''No.'' ''Ok lets just remake Total Recall.'' ''Great idea. Here is a promotion.''

I guessed that but surely there is no credibility in churning out this sh*te. I don't know how they can look themselves in the mirror. I really don't. I'd have more respect for a mugger. At least they put in som effort to rob the public. |

The finance guys are now making the calls. With remakes you can go with unknown writers / producers/ directors etc and make even more money. As long as people pay money to watch them, it will continue. |
