The answer is 5; Wembley, the Olympic stadia of Rome, Munich and Berlin, and the Luzhniki in Moscow. Stade de France will become the sixth stadium when it hosts the 2024 Olympics.

2002 World Cup Final was not in Tokyo, but at the Nissan Stadium in Yokohama. This is also the one of two stadia to have hosted both football and rugby World Cup Finals. The other is of course Stade de France. 1994 World Cup Final was at The Rose Bowl, Pasadena. Los Angeles Coliseum staged the 1932 and 1984 Olympics. And as for Rio, that’s why my question specifically said Olympic athletics. As well as the 2014 World Cup Final, the Maracana staged the opening and closing ceremonies and football finals of the Rio 2016 Olympics, but no track and field.

There have been 22 World Cup and 16 European Championships to date, but only one of the 38 has been won by a manager who was not a national of his winning team. Name?

I'd have guessed maybe Russia had a Ukrainian or Belarussian as coach when they won it. But Mr Hammered has nailed it

One more, minor respect in which that victory was exceptional.

Think Martin O'Neill - held Irish nationality, even if he wasn't born in the country

I wonder does that mean that it is pretty much essential to be managed by your own national? Or might it be that the "big" countries, who usually supply the winners, consider they have enough home-grown managers not to need to look elsewhere? Meaning that they could be just as successful, if not more so, if they selected the best person available, regardless of nationality? England are a rare example of a "big" country who have appointed a foreign manager, but if both Erikksen and Capello were notably unsuccessful, maybe that was more to do with the incompetence of the FA. I mean, the likes of McClaren and Hodgson were arguably worse, though Venables and Southgate have both been pretty good. Martinez did a great job with Belgium in many ways, not least because he was "neutral" in the French vs Flemish split which has traditionally bedevilled Belgium football. But if ultimately he failed, I suspect it was simoly because he was never quite a top manager? And closer to home, McMenemy was a disaster for NI, though Sanchez - much more English than Norn Iron - seemed to "get" it. And, of course, Big Jack turned out to be ROI's greatest manager, with Trapattoni not bad, either.

I think this is exactly the reason - the serial winners of these competitions - Germany, France, Spain, Italy, Brazil and Argentina - have a big enough pool of managerial talent to rarely, if ever, need to hire a foreign manager. I would be of the view that there is little to suggest that England, with a record of one win from 38 tournaments (and even that one win coming in a home tournament) deserve to be included in the "big" countries here.
