Great band. Going to see them again in early July. In fact in the space of a week of each other I'll be going to see Paul Heaton, Stevie Wonder and Idles |

Is Stevie Wonder playing in Dublin? I was always told he refused to play in Dublin as he couldn't see the point! |

Paddy is a bit of a genius. He's struggled with health problems in recent years and the threat of losing his sight and hearing. I'm a huge fan of most of their albums, from Swoon when he didn't really know what he was doing, which gave it it's own charm, to their last album, which is brilliant, and is basically a Paddy solo album as he just worked with an engineer, and picked the songs out of a huge catalogue he's built up over the last 30 plus years. He turned himself into a great craftsman. |

I only got into the later stuff as a result of my own love of Stuart Maconie(but Radcliffe annoys me,and boy have I tried to like him) who is a regular champion. It is very enjoyable and often amusing. This isn't a direct comparison, but some of the later stuff reminds of Robert Wyatt. I think it is the same strain of eccentric intelligence.

Turkish Bazar by Emanuel Top. Classic 90s acid techno tune.
In this tune they say the line 'The music was new, black polished chrome, And came over the summer like liquid night'. This is the opening line from a song called Black Polished Chrome by Jim Morrison. The Jim Morrison song goes on to say 'The DJ's took pills to stay awake And play for seven days.' So hence the reference in the Emanuel top tune. Pretty cool connection between The Doors who were a rock band with a bit of blues or psychedelic and a thumping acid techno wee number.
