Just read that Ten, Trompe Le Monde and Nevermind were all released in the same month back in the 1991. Some going that.

Sure it's well known that 1991 and particularly the latter half of 1991 was a particularly fertile time for important albums

Screamadelica, Achtung Baby, Loveless and the Use Your Illusion albums all came out in that September-November 1991 time frame

Massive Attack's Blue Lines, KLF's The White Room, The Low End Theory by A Tribe Called Quest and Apocalypse '91 by Public Enemy are other key albums of that year

The Red Hot Chili Peppers even managed to release a half decent album if you're into that sort of thing

Nevermind is undoubtedly a very important album and Nirvana were a cut above their peers but grunge in general was always too white bread and plodding for me, I didn't find it exciting

The popular music scene was in a really sweet spot at that time in terms of diversity and vitality though

I get what you mean about the grunge scene, a lot of them were hanging on to Nirvana's success. I can never understand the clamour for 'Pearl Jam, it still feels like rock by numbers. It didn't sound fresh or interesting, then or now. There was some good and interesting stuff from that scene though, and even more from the associated Riot Grrrl scene.
I actually have always preferred 'Bleach' and 'In Utero' to 'Nevermind'.

As for the Pixies, I always felt that was the weakest of the four original albums. Some great songs, but incomparable to the three before. Albini's production on Surfer Rosa was incredible and was a big influence on what was to come on the grunge scene; while Doolittle and Bossanova are just incredible. Both are near perfection.
