I use to get 30p a day as my pocket money. Was great you could get 3 10p pack of crisps or get 2 in combination with touchdown bars and the likes. Then they increased everything by 2-3p and it sent the whole thing out of whack, first time being exposed to inflation. Should have hit my parents for an increase in my pocket money to cover the inflation

What was a Smiley Bar again? I know I ate 'em. Some vague yellow bar is popping to mind. I remember Desperate Dan Bars with sugar stones in them Roy of the Rovers pineapple flavour Stinger Bars Those bars would be illegal now with all the sugar in them

Jaysus, I was borderline addicted to them. Does anyone remember Big time bars? Were like toffee bars I think, had a clock on the front.

They still make them in South Africa, you can buy them online or in some of those "American candy" shops but they charge mad money. There was an African shop in Dublin years ago I used to get them in for €1-2, think its long gone. Was off Capel St.

I want to say they were nicer than crispy M&M's but I'm not sure if that's sentiment talking. Strange vibe off those American candy places alright, seem like laundering fronts. Those African and Asian shops do have great stuff alright. Some exotic crisps flavours and deadly noodles.

Ye a fella used to drive around Palmerstown and Ballyer in a Hiace selling fruit, veg and random sweets and those torpedo things that were meant to be frozen like a cool pop. Big time bars and macaroon bars.

My cousin had that unfortunate nickname because he shared the same surname as a notorious local traveller family. |
