Fair play to him.

August 9 – Former Germany captain Philipp Lahm is to boycott this year’s World Cup over host nation Qatar’s human rights record. The Gulf state was controversially awarded the tournament back in 2010 and its opening match is now just over three months away Lahm was captain of the German national side when they won the World Cup in Brazil in 2014 and now works as the

Saw an interesting thing play out online over the past few days.
FC St Pauli tweeted a message on Sunday condemning the acts of Hamas and hoping for peace in the middle east. Some of the St Pauli supporters clubs based outside of Germany were not happy that they had chose to do this but not chosen to say anything previously about the attacks on the Palestinians so tweeted about that. And there now seems to be a bit of a backlash from some FCSP fans in Germany towards the foreign supporters clubs because of it - Complex attitudes in Germany to Israel and Jewish people for obvious historical reasons.

I did see Celtic groups looking to end any association with St Pauli as I think they were showing support for Israel.

Can't recall exactly what it was.

He wouldn't set me free,
So he kept me soul for ransom.

I don't think that will actually happen - Most of the Glasgow St. Pauli guys and girls are all Celtic fans as well. And they probably wouldn't cut ties just on the basis of what a clubs board says as they'll have disagreed with the position of Celtic's board at times also.
The interesting element here is what some fans view of their club is relative to others.

Celtic have probably had more Israeli's players than many other clubs.

Probably not.

But Celtic fans and groups have always supported Palestine (not Hamas) as opposed to Israel.

Easy to see hoiw some just stay silent on these issues, you offend the other side if you are seen as pro-either side.

Staying silent on these issues is seen as having your head in the sand and allowing perpetrators to get away with it.

No win situation really.

And Anti-Israeli government = Anti-Semitic apparently

Difficult to hold an opinion these days. Meanwhile the European parliament goes ahead and flies an Israeli flag without any reference to its citizens wishes.
