Newcastle fans have a recent history of protest and against previous owners. Sure we all remember the footage of Keegan and the fans discussing the sale of Andy Cole in 1995. Leaning into modern football by throwing hands up in the air and saying it’s a commercial decision, and platitudes about how it might actually help the oppressed in the long run sounds totally disingenuous.
Newcastle fans spent the last 10 years protesting about how Ashley was running the club and it didn't work, he only sold when he needed the money. They have a tradition of protest and demonstrations but only ever football related.
I'm not trying to defend the Saudi owners, I'm looking for your ideas of what the fans should do. If the Saudis bought your club, what would you do?
I can only speak from my experiences as a match going Liverpool fan but I suspect that had the Saudis tried to buy Liverpool my guess is that the level of protest would have been enough to convince them to abandon the idea.

How long did it take for the 'Thanks but no yanks' signs to disappear when FSG took over?
Those signs were directed at Hicks and Gillet. They disappeared when FSG took over.

The issue was with both the running of the club and the fact that they were american - hence the yanks part and the chants of yanks out.

No, there was no issue with the fact that they were American.
FSG engaged with SOS before the took over so that kinda blows your theory out of the water.

But this is all irrelevant to my main point.

S&B You are able to support your team and demonstrate at the same time.

I think Newcastle fans had such a terrible time with Ashley, anyone that bought the club was seen as an improvement. At a world level there had been a greater acceptance of authoritarian rulers and doing business with them. But Putin has changed everything.
It would damage this forums' reputation

This excellently sums up the hypocrisy of the football owners, and our western skewed world view

Exactly it's almost as if the Yemen atrocities have never happened!

That "what are we more outraged about x that y" argument goes far beyond football

Eddie Howe still going with the "I'm just going to talk about football" line when asked about his bosses executing 81 people.

English football in general has got gradually more avaricious over the last thirty years.

There aren't any lows it won't stoop to in its endless quest to monopolise the game.

Credit the author for his takedown of “whataboutery”. I’m seeing an awful lot of it in relation to Ukraine which needs to be examined.
