Feck it anyway.

Espanyol defender Steve Finnan has been forced to withdraw from the Republic of Ireland squad for the upcoming FIFA World Cup 2010 group 8 qualifiers against Bulgaria and Italy on March 28th and April 1st respectively due to the recurrence of a hamstring injury.

That leaves Giovanni Trapattoni 25 players from which to choose a squad of 23 to play Bulgaria in Croke Park on Saturday March 28 (Kick off 7.45pm) before travelling to Bari to take on Group favourites, Italy on April 1 (Kick off 8.50pm local time).

was expected really. McShane or Foley would be my choice. O'Dea has been doing well at full back too but that's at Left Back

This is exactly the type of situation where if Foley had of been blooded he could be considered. Poor lad has been in about 15 squads and yet to get the nod.

I haven't seen what he's been like for Stoke. My judgement is based on his last performance. Think Trap will go for McShane if fit though

I'd prefer if we went with Foley, McShane doesn't fill me with great confidence at all.

He plays for Wolves.

Absolutely sickenin!! Thumbs%20Down Only replacements we have are 2 fookin planks, we're gonna have to get behind whoever starts tho, as hard as it is if we cheered Kelly/McShane's early touches their confidence would go thru the roof!!

Trap: We're only as strong as our weakest player, so sorry McShane but we're only going to start with 10 players.

Let's not get too down about it lads, we've coped without Finnan for yonks at this stage and we've done ok.....let's have faith in whoever comes in.  Kelly would be my choice cos that's his natural position and McShane is just not up to it there.
We'll never die, we'll never die, we'll keep the Green Flag flying high......Shamrock Rovers will never die, we'll keep the Green Flag Flying high. 19 Leagues and 25 Cups.....

To clear it up, I was talking about Kelly. Someone said they'd stick Kelly in again and I said I hadn't seen how he played for Stoke so far but based on his last performance for us I wouldn't have him in. Have watched Foley a number of times this season and he is solid. Think he will be future number 1 at RB. Reminds me of Finnan

Lads have a look at the birmingham fans forums, every single fan is saying selling kelly and bringing in Carr was a masterstroke and that none of them would take kelly back over him.

I know he has only played about 8 games but he has nearly 50 caps and is playing 3 games a week with no ? over his fitness so surely he could be considered for this squad?

Would be happier to see him in a big game then McShane who is rash and gives away too many dangerous frees, or Foley who I think deserves a chance but this is possibly too soon for him in terms of big game experience.

Carr wouldn't come back. He retired from football altogether before getting another chance. He has been poor the last few years anyway which is a shame as he was a smashing player before he got injured. Unless he has had some revelation with his fitness I can't see him ever returning to play at the top level again

Possible he would not come back, but playing 3 games a week at Championship level so I dont think fitness can be questioned, has obviously kept in excellent condition to just walk back into a team 2nd in the championship? Surely a better option under pressure and in terms of use of the ball then mcshane?
