I read the Guardian... whats wrong with Guardian readers? Fair to assume that Ingmar Bergman is a porn star...Big smile
So do I, that's why I go there!

Recent cinema trips:

A Fistful of Dollars - the spaghetti western that started them all. Very stylish, great score and nice new restored picture. The remastered sound is fookin loud though, almost uncomfortably so.

A Quiet Place - one the of the films of the year. A superb, extremely tense horror.

Isle of Dogs - I used to love Wes Anderson films, then I hated them (Grand Budapest Hotel, Moonrise Kingdom), but this was great. The stop-motion animation perfectly suits his style and visually it was fascinating.

120 BPM - Solid French drama about a group of activists during the AIDS epidemic in early 90s Paris.

You Were Never Really There - Starring Joaquin Phoenix. Brooding, violent arty thriller. Top notch.

Loveless - Bleak Russian drama where a 12-year old kid goes missing. Brilliant.

I also re-watched The Witch the other night, one of the best horror movies of recent years.

Really want to see 120 BPM but the local cinema doesn't seem to want to show it after lunchtime.

Probably not a huge demand for it.
It's a bit over-long too, although the performances are very good so that keeps your attention.

Possibly not, but why show it at all if you aren't going to show it any later than three o'clock? Especially as the weather is finally getting decent!

I know it divided opinion alright. I love stuff like The Wicker Man, Blood on Satan's Claw, and that kind of folk-horror from the 1970s and this seemed to be in that vein. I don't particularly like horror films that are formulaic and gory, I prefer ones that develop an atmosphere of dread, mystery and evil and I think this did it brilliantly. Right down to the Old English dialect that the characters spoke in.

Although it took a while to get used to Finchy from The Office being a 17th century peasant in the New World! LOL

The Cured.

An Irish zombie film by first-time director David Freyne. Pretty good, considering the low budget and 5-week shoot (according to the director in the Q&A afterwards). It was a neat story idea and fun to see a zombie movie set around Drumcondra and Croke Park. Big smile
