Its mad, but unsurprising. It would be good to know if the 500k was just used on flights, then what the other 500k was used for.

From his Wiki entry (not yet updated, also my emphasis):
"Gordon Derrick is the General Secretary of the Antigua and Barbuda Football Association. He was appointed to the position in April 2004. He is currently the President of the Caribbean Football Union. He was appointed to the position in May 2012 replacing the Trinidadian Jack Warner.
In October 2011, FIFA questioned Derrick for his part in the Caribbean Football Union corruption scandal. He was reprimanded and fined 300 CHF by FIFA Ethics Committee. In April 2016, he was disqualified from entering the election to become president of CONCACAF due to his actions during the scandal and an ongoing FIFA investigation into alleged misuse of FIFA development funds."
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gordon_Derrick

Meanwhile, Derrick will still only be 54 or 55 when his six year ban ends, so will presumably be able to resume some sort of role in Caribbean football, should he so wish.

And in the meantime he can keep himself busy in his role as Director of an Antiguan bank...

Two officials banned for life by the Sierra Leone Football Association (SLFA) will not accept the sanction.

The duo are among 19 officials banned for violating SLFA and Fifa statutes concerning taking football related cases to civil courts.

Swiss prosecutors have opened criminal proceedings into Paris St-Germain chairman Nasser Al-Khelaifi.

The proceedings are connected to an ongoing investigation into former Fifa secretary general Jerome Valcke.

They relate to the sale of World Cup TV rights to Bein Sports, of which Al-Khelaifi is chief executive.

Disgraced former FIFA president Sepp Blatter has been invited to next year's World Cup by Russian president Vladimir Putin.

And a FIFA spokesperson said"As long as he (Blatter) has no official function, this should be fine."

A former judge who led Guatemala’s soccer federation is set to be the first person sentenced in the U.S. in the world soccer scandal.

Hector Trujillo, 63, is scheduled to be sentenced today in a federal court in Brooklyn. He pleaded guilty to wire fraud and conspiracy in June.

Trujillo admitted to accepting nearly $200,000 in bribes from a company trying to secure sports marketing contracts.

KOLKATA, India (AFP) — FIFA leader Gianni Infantino insisted yesterday that football's world body is no longer a “toxic” brand shunned because of scandals that embroiled past leaders.

Infantino hailed the increase to US$400 million in prize money for next year's World Cup in Russia — including US$38 million for the winning team — as a sign of FIFA's success.

The US$48-million increase from 2014 and toughened bid rules for the 2026 tournament were both agreed by FIFA's ruling council at a meeting in Kolkata.

The increase is “a positive sign in terms of the healthy financial situation of FIFA”, said Infantino who took over from the scandal-tainted Sepp Blatter in February last year.

Infantino said bidding regulations for future World Cups have to be “bulletproof” after the past scandal that saw FIFA lose sponsors.

Hope Solo told a Portuguese newspaper that Sepp Blatter sexually assaulted her at the Ballon d'Or awards ceremony in 2013.

In an interview published in the newspaper Expresso, Solo said Blatter grabbed her rear end shortly before the two appeared onstage at the annual soccer awards event.

A representative for Solo confirmed to CBS News that the report is "accurate" but said Solo would not be commenting further.

What a bummer.

FIfa case in Brooklyn enters week two today.
Reports that a TV exec whose company was named in the trial has been assassinated.
It follows last week's suicide of another TV exec and one defendant making an alleged throat slashing gesture to the main witness
