Fifa has called an extraordinary meeting of its executive committee following 'incidents at the play-offs for the World Cup, match control (refereeing) and irregularities in the football betting market'.
It has been arranged that members of the world football governing body will gather in Cape Town on 2nd December after the recent play-off matches created a number of talking points. The meeting has also been called by Fifa president Sepp Blatter in response to hundreds of arrests across Europe by officers investigating corruption in football. Fifa said in a statement: "Due to recent events in the world of football, namely incidents at the play-offs for the 2010 Fifa World Cup South Africa, match control (refereeing) and irregularities in the football betting market, the Fifa president has called an extraordinary meeting of the executive committee. "The extraordinary meeting of the executive committee will take place in Cape Town on 2nd December 2009." Outrage Republic of Ireland were eliminated by France, with Thierry Henry causing outrage as he handled the ball in the build-up to William Gallas' extra-time goal which secured a 2-1 aggregate victory for Les Bleus. But Sky Sports News understands that Fifa's stance has not changed since rejecting Republic of Ireland's request for a replay. The Football Association of Ireland said in a statement: "In relation to this evening's announcement that Fifa president Sepp Blatter has called an extraordinary meeting of the Fifa executive committee to discuss incidents at the play-offs, the FAI confirmed that it heard about this meeting today through Fifa's press release. "Should we be asked to make any contribution, the FAI would be happy to do so for the improvement of the game." The African play-off match between Algeria and Egypt was also marred by scenes of off-field violence. |

Firstly - why do people want a replay? France won the 1st leg, we won the 2nd leg, got robbed in extra time, therefore only extra time should be replayed.
Secondly - FIFA are going to cop out on the issues surrounding this match by A) banning the officials from officiating at the World Cup, then B) they're going to give Henry something stupid like a 2game SUSPENDED ban, which will mean nothing. Therefore they are punishing the officials for not being able to tell when they have also been cheated and deceived and are basically saying fair play Henry what you did was kinda wrong but we'll see you in South Africa. |

Replay not on the cards and no hope of going to South Africa.
All we can hope for is a small opening so that perhaps the Fifa will look into video-refereeing based on our match. It will have something good come out of it at least. |

this 'crisis meeting' is all to save face, as is every media announcement over the past week. we all kno that henry only said he was sorry after fifa said ther was no replay... he didnt mean it he just knew it was the right thing for his public image.
the same applies here. Big emergency crisis meeting in fifa.... absolute bullsh*t. they will have a bit of lunch and say, 'rite lads we might just have to talk up goal line technology, maybe give henry some kind of ban or fine, and stop hansson refereeing in the world cup' the irish are out for blood and this is just to make it look like they are doing something..
THIS IS ALL TO SAVE FACE IN THE PUBLIC EYE...
nothing will happen
we have more chance of going to the world cup if north korea and south korea go to war or if south africa dont finish their stadiums in time
