Checkout google images for 'Subbuteo Goals'

Some brilliant ones on there with stanchions, box goals, tie up poles etc

I know it's a different sport, but Bernard Brogan made great use of the stanchion at Croker recently when he smashed a volley in off it against Derry last month. Thumbs Up

94 obviously, other than that the old carrow road stanchions duringthe 90s (around the big uefa cup run) where class, can remember the unique green and yellow vertical stripping on netting. you cant have a discussion about stanchions without netting its madness.

Portuguese stanchions always gave a very generous goal area to worth with. They went back for miles and miles and miles*.

It was this perfect blend of stanchion / netting that allowed USA 94 to achieve the lofty heights it did in the goalmouth department.

Norwich's netting was top class. Southampton had great netting in the Dell as well, with their short stanchions. I'm also glad to see Liverpool's red netting back, even though I am a United fan. A little diversity in netting and stanchions makes life interesting.

This is genuinely one of the best debates ever on YBIG!

A mention must go to the old Hampden Park goals. A very very deep stanchion and the keeper had to bend right down into the goal to get the ball if it nestled in there. The posts were also square and St. Etienne blame this for their defeat to Munich in the 1976 European Cup Final.

The deep goalmouth is my Favourite  For me it's Poland that I remember.

Poznan 1991

A variation is the invisible stantion, invisible net effect. [I appreciate Radio-mikes is a parallel discussion]
Moscow 1993

There was a legimate goal disallowed in First Division in 1970's or early 1980's when the shot hit the inside of the stantion and came out.  The rf didn't give it.
On Match of the Day later that night Jimmy Hill gave a piece about the stantion/stauchion and this pronuciation was sl*gged off on the Baddiel/Skinner vehicle years later.

Likewise UCd, Mexico 86 had the best nets. This illustrates it beautifully

Have to agree, love the way the ball bounces back out of the goal after a screamer like that.

Even in slow motion, there was no stopping that.
