While I'm rooting around on youtube, look at the scenes in the old Lansdowne road. Cascarino's goal comes around 5:45

Nobody mentioning O'Shea with the last kick in Gelsenkirchen?

These were the World Champions, who had beaten Brazil 7-1 in their own back yard a few months previously, and a team who had tore us a new one barely two years prior.

I think Robbie keanes equaliser against Italy in bari deserves a mention.it felt great because I hadn't celebrated a goal like it since the 2002 world cup.it felt like we were back again putting it up against the big boys after 7 barren years

Spot on GS would be my top ten favourites.
Mark Kennedy's strike against the former Yugoslavia was pure class.Niall Quinn's goal at Wembley in 1991 was a thing of beauty and Stapleton's diving header which began the Charlton years against Belgium was a great goal.So many great moments....

That Kennedy goal was class, great result that night against a very good Yugoslav side.

St. Ledger against Italy in Croker, absolute mayhem when that went in.

Pity it was so short lived.

His goal V Croatia at the euros also ensued mental celebrations but that was about as good as it got and the celebrations were also short lived unfortunately.

John O'Shea v Germany for me.

Whistle-gate ruined that one for me.

Sheedy taking the ball off Steve Mcmahon and burying it in the corner would surely have to be up there too. We seem to have a few where we are a goal down late in the match and suddenly euphoria erupts when we score
And it's come through now to mackay... and it's there

We were already 1-0 up against Bosnia when that goal went in though. No way did that goal compare with Long v Germany or O'Shea v Germany, they were better moments, bigger shocks as it were.

It was Jack Charlton who said most great goals, they come to you as a shock. That's why the two goals v Germany were better moments than Walters second v Bosnia.

I was going by the importance of the goals.  Obviously some were not exactly classics.  Mark Kennedy's in 1999 was certainly a wonderful goal and hugely important.  Walters more or less clinched qualification whereas O'Shea's and Long's were crucial goals along the way.

there were many any other crucial goals at the time that ultimately proved fruitless - Brady v France, Walsh v USSR.  Stapleton, Robinson v Holland and France.  Quinn at Wembley and I'm forgetting loads.

Then you go back to previous times.  Noel Cantwell v Austria to send us into the last 8 of the 1964 Euros.  Fionan Fagan in Dusseldorf, Con Martin and Peter Farrell at Goodison.  Iribar's own goal in 1965 was a thing of beauty.  Again I'm not doing this justice.

Ultimately I would prioritize a World Cup over a Euros.  I make an exception for Euro88 as it was our first ever major finals.   Each to their own opinion though.

Wonderful lads, just what I was hoping for. I'll share a couple more moments I've tried to illustrate before, including a few that have been mentioned above in case anyone is interested :)

Granted, we ultimately didn’t qualify, I think McClean’s goal vs Wales will go down as one of the great Irish goals in history.

Maybe not 100% finished this, but it has been on the to-do list since :)

#3: Alan McLoughlin goal in 93 v Northern Ireland.
This was more than just a game and considering what was at stake, a wonderful strike.
Watching it at my mates house - pre boozing days.

#2: Ray Houghan goal v Italy 94. I've watched this game back more than any other Irish game. This was peak Ireland.

#1: Robbie Keane v Germany 2002. Being at the match and the good feeling for the whole 2 weeks in Japan.

Etcher, Robbie was a bit less central for the Germany goal. He was in line with the post when he struck it. I'm being a bit pedantic but I love that moment and want it to be spot on.

Great work though. Your Robbie Brady pic sliding on his knees in Zenica is framed and hanging on my kitchen wall
