Yeah Gomes was poor.

Was surprised that for two or three of the goals City had smaller players outjumping Watford defenders/midfielders to win headers in the build up

 It was a great tournament.
An excellent analogy. Today was a cringe-fest from start to finish.

only seen the first half.. thought it was ok obviously til city scored two.. bad defending is cathcart the nordie player.. the gulf in class probably didnt help.. maybe wolves wouldve been better
oh they cant get rid of a cup competition....

BBC commentators were saying about halfway into the second half of how well Cathcart and Mariappa were playing. Not sure what game they were watching.
Watford needed the first goal to make a game of it. Was a big chance Pereyra missed, Ederson did brilliantly.

It's like the FA themselves have lost all interest in the cup.  The Premier League is now their show pony.  They have devalued the FA cup themselves in numerous ways.  Playing the final on the same day as Premier League fixtures, having the semis at Wembley, selling the naming rights to a sponsor, having a 5pm kick off etc..

Whether people want to admit it or not ( especially the lower division clubs) the competition is dead.  The top teams couldn't give a sh*te about it unless their reserve teams have got them to the semi finals which is often the case and then and only then do they seem to show an interest in winning it. Almost like ''ah sure we're nearly there now we might as well win it.  It's a trophy after all I suppose isn't it?  Meh. Guess so.''

Back int he 80's you'd nearly rather win the cup than the league.  It seemed more glorious.

It's not just the FA Cup.  The UEFA Cup and the Cup Winners Cup were totally destroyed and international football has been devalued due to the Premier League and Champions League.

The only reason I'll watch the Europa League is because two English teams are in it adding to the interest.  It's an awful tournament these days.  Who wants to see Boavista v Anderlecht or some such fixture?  Back in the day you had to finish 2nd or 3rd to get into the competition. Now if you finish 7th you get in.

So many empty Red seats at Wembley on Saturday. Sad to see what was the show piece of the year being reduced to a bit part in Moneyball land.
Long gone are those halycon cup final days and the magic of David Coleman "One-Nil...."

Most lower division clubs only care about it from a financial point of view.

Man U getting a pass in 2000 was the beginning of the end. Wembley Semi Finals, 5:15pm kick offs etc added to it.

Dunno about that.  They still have this glory in their heads about ''giant killings'' and such sh*te.  Eh nobody gives a toss if you beat a cobbled together Man Utd XI of youth and reserve players pal.

Back int he day Liverpool or whoever would put out their strongest teams from the 3rd round onwards.

As a regular at a lower division club I can assure you that is the case.

Spot on TJ I must say . Still the idea of the Clarets playing in Europe was something that hadn't happen for 50 years so that was a plus for some .

It wouldn't be so bad if it was two teams outside the top 6 who haven't won many trophies in recent years in the final.

The last ten years in Europe's biggest cup competitions have all been fairly predictable, the FA cup is the only cup competition that had one major shock being Wigan.

The Copa Del Rey has had four different winners, the only surprise being Seville.

DFB cup has had six different winners Frankfurt the major surprise. Dortmund and Bremen won leagues in the time frame they won it and Wolfsburg and Schalke were in the champions league when they won it.

Coppa Italia has had four different winners, Lazio and Napoli and Inter at their peak twice and Juve won it five times in a row.

Don't know why so many people are so negative around the competition.

All sport is becoming very predictable

You'd swear that some on here fancied Watford to win on Saturday with the reaction.

Problem is you either have a team like City going for a treble, or a double, or one of the four/five teams who have essentially failed in the league but can then put all their eggs into the basket of the domestic cup, and know they can probably beat most teams along the way, and hope the other clubs get knocked out along the way.

Didn't you say it was a 50/50 game a few days before the final?
