Financial free-fall will ensue for this basket case club. They were incredibly lucky not to be relegated last season. Their good players will have to be sold in the January window, probably on the cheap as they will be desperate for money. Jason Knight at least should benefit and hopefully get a PL move.

Derby County are set to accept a 9-point penalty for a breaching of English Football League financial regulations, but Alan Nixon has revealed that the EFL ‘had the power’ to pursue a much larger 17-point deduction.Derby County remain rooted to the foot of the Championship table after suffering a 12-point deduction for entering into administration earlier in the season. < ="https://imasdk.googleapis.com/js/core/bridge3.489.0_en.#goog_142535354" allowfullscreen="" allow="autoplay;attribution-reing" id="goog_142535354" width="400" height="225" style="-sizing: inherit; border-width: 0px; border-style: initial; opacity: 1; margin: 0px; padding: 0px; : relative; color-scheme: light;"> 0 seconds of 15 secondsVolume 0% Reports this week have now suggested that the Rams are set to reluctantly accept a further 9-point deduction for their financial misconduct during Mel Morris’ reign, taking their total point deduction for the season to 21 (with a 3-point suspended penalty for a late payment of players last season). The club’s administrators launched an appeal against their administration points penalty which was later adjourned, and they were also confident of seeing what was always set to be a 9-point deduction for breaching financial regulations reduced. But it looks set to be a 9-point penalty. Nixon though writes in The Sun on Sunday this morning that the EFL ‘had the power’ to push for a much larger penalty for Derby County’s financial misconduct – he writes that, should the case have gone to an independent disciplinary commission, then the EFL could’ve pushed for a 17-point deduction rather than a 9-point deduction. |

Derby are facing the prospect of relegation from the Sky Bet Championship after accepting a 21-point deduction. The club’s administrators have agreed another deduction of nine points, plus a further suspended three points, for historical financial breaches under former owner Mel Morris. It takes the total penalty points to minus-21, after the minus-12 for sliding into administration, leaving the Rams on minus-three points and marooned at the bottom of the table with relegation to League One looking inevitable. Trevor Birch, the EFL chief executive said: “The EFL’s objective throughout this ongoing process has been to ensure that the principles of the regulations were upheld on behalf of all clubs.” |
