You will find these 'Milk bars' in most Polish cities.

In Poznan for example you will find one in the main square.
The food is decent but very cheap.

The mother-in-law gave me a guidebook for my birthday (what a legend is all I'll say - a Yank who is taking my trip to the Euros very seriously!). Anyway... has a good few restaurant choices in Poznan but wondering if you could offer some more. Especially good local cuisine. Don't mind paying up a bit for good food.

Also, is it more normal to book tables in Poland or just stroll in?

The 'Milk bars' are great. Real communist type places. Very simple and basic but delicious and cheap food. I was in one in Krakow a few years ago and got 2 courses for a fiver Big smile

I try make a list of good places to eat tonight after work.

I'll try cover different ends of the spectrum.
- Economic and decent food.
- Higher quality.

Generally though you can eat very well here for cheap enough.

Those milk bars used to be crazy in communist times.
Some of them actually looked like this according to my wife:

I bought a Polish tourist guide book in a 2nd book shop a few weeks ago. Had a look through it there the other day and it was published in 1993 but I'm sure Poland has gone through very few changes since then
