Because it would mean winning four rounds on the trot, some of them against teams from far, far stronger leagues. When was the last time an Irish club won three rounds on the trot?

The league does an excellent job in ensuring that teams are in the best possible shape for European competition and that has helped our teams in games against those in and around us and made us competitive and capable of beating teams that are better, catching them cold as it were. If Dundalk make the play-off round it would be the greatest performance of any Irish club in Europe, by some distance, including the two efforts at making the groups.
The only team who have a remote hope of making the EL groups is the the one that starts in the CL. You can't be lucky with the draw four times.

Totally agree, only way to get Europa League for an Irish team is through the CL.

Is it true Cork will not even be seeded for their 1st round game in CL this year?

The first round this year is essentially the second round from last year which dundalk were unseeded in. City are a long way from seeded sadly.

yeah bray would have been worthy of a draw.

We didn't get going st all, think we had only the two attempts all night! The only bit of ball we played was the last 3 'ins down in the corner which led to the 2nd goal.

Bray missed a couple of decent chances and should have been one up before we scored.mccabe was unlucky with his long range effort

I see Graham Byrne has left the club - Any reason behind that ???
Have heard him on the radio a few times and always came across like he knew what he was doing.

It didn't give any reasan. No doubt he will be a loss but my understanding was that he was only doing one day a week with the team for quite some time now along with match nights.

He took up a role with Louth GAA recently, also we have changed from training in the evenings to mornings which may not suit him.

really looking forward to tonight, what a day to go and watch a match. No World Cup so there really is no excuses for people not to turn up.

Will probably be a tight game again but if we can score first it will hopefully force cork to open up a bit more and make it more exciting, both teams in great form coming into it and after the break both should be well up for it.

fats back at the club, serious sign of intent by the new owners bringing him back on a 3 1/2 year deal. They have said since the start they want stability and players been tied down long term is part of that, might also help with a transfer fee!

Georgie Kelly from ucd has also joined on a 2 1/2 deal, providing some much needed back up for Hoban

Thanks.

A good signing for them alright. Was he released by Oldham then or was there a fee?

He was under contract and apparently we had a bid rejected by Oldham for Duffus so I'd imagine so. Haven't seen a figure mentioned though. Perhaps Shoco will know.

Edit: 55k I've been told, unconfirmed. Kelly would have needed a fee as well. I'll be accused of bias here but Dundalk must be pushing the FFP boundaries unless they offload someone.

not long in the door from Tallinn, great trip.

A bit disappointed we didn't finish them off, we had the chances to but still have to be happy with an away win in Europe, think we'll beat them easily at home.
