Anyone got some info on this place

Might be headin over there with the family but im sceptical

Is it very expensive? Is boozing a bit of a taboo over there?
It took City 44 years to win the league and 10 months to lose it

I headed over there with the ex a couple of years ago - absolutely amazing place!! There's no issue with boozing at all - it's just that all the bars etc are only to be found in hotels. But there's tons of hotels and they're all class.

Would be a terrible place to go for a lads holiday, but with the girlfriend or family it is ideal. Prepare to be blown away by pretty much everything if you do go over!

It can be expensive, but we went in June which is off season (because it's extremely hot) so the hotel and that wasn't as pricey as you might think. Most hotels are 5 star as well.

+1

Though i went there with a bunch of lads it was still great craic. One of the lads cousins was working over there so he showed us where to go. Plenty of pubs, as ya said there are all in hotels, but there proper bars like you'd get here. Loads of sh*t to do also over there.

Too be honest I didn't think much of the place.............Yes everything (when it's finally finished) is "Bigger" and "Un real"........but that's what any Theme Park is like.

Parts of the old city are quite interesting, but as for the rest, a bit like Vegas, two or three days is more than enough
Wallet ?? What the fcuk is that ?

Deira (the old Town) is nice. Real Arabic old town, with a Gold Soukh (market) and great place for tailor made colthing too. Got a great suit made there for peanuts. Food cheap enough there, but not many boozers in Deira as mainly hotels for locals.

Bur Dubai, the new part has tons of shopping malls, huge hotels etc, and they all have bars and clubs. Much more expensive as it's all catered towards Western tourists.

There's a place called The Irish Village near the airport that has a huge pub, beergarden and shows all the games etc. Handy when there are games on. That was the only place that sold drink outside the hotels.

Make sure to book lunch in the Burj Al Arab for about 40pp. Only way to get in there without forking out an absolute fortune for a room. Great view of the city, and the Wilkd Wadi waterpark next to it is brilliant though.

Amazing place would highly recommend it!! Went last year with the bird for 5 days and didn t get to do half the things we wanted. Its just unreal they have everything. In terms of boozing had a few cracking nights all the hotels have bars and Nightclubs and the Irish Village is definitly worth having a beer in.

Vivaken, I have been there once, it was in March 2010 for the Dubai World cup in new Meydan in Dubai...thought the place was great...very westernised, which will suit you....alot of Irish and westerners have misconceived ideas/perceptions of Dubai and they are wrong....good to see the people that have commented so far had a good time, apart from ciaran, but sure no-one listens to him anyway! Wink

Put it this way, I am in the process of moving to Dubai in the next few(4-6) months, just getting stuff sorted out here with Banks, job, Mortgage etc...
Tax free wage etc... can't wait

If your not leaving the airport, there won't be any issues as you don't go through immigration. If your layover is greater than eight hours Emirates use a hotel in which case you need to go through immigration. However you still won't encounter any problems with your passport.

If you're really worried, just apply for a new passport. It doesn't matter if you've years left, once you supply the old one. They only get antsy if you've lost the old one, afaik.

Are you living here or going on holiday?

That place is about an hour outside of Dubai so it would be a disaster if it's a holiday.

When are you going?
It’s horrible during the summer months.

Best going in their winter when it’s just mid 20’s
